Great little study for a small group. Either the leader can buy it and use it as her/his question and focal guide (this is how I used it) or each member can buy a copy. I enjoyed NT Wright's perspective on this heartwarming letter to the Philippians. If you want more detail as a study leader, NT Wright also has small commentary, "Paul for Everone: The Prison Letters which covers Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon." The two books cover similar themes but the ideas are more thoroughly explained in the small commentary.

It's okay, but don't expect N.T. Wright quality stuff. There are excellent informative blurbs that seem to have been written by Wright, but it seems that others wrote all of the questions. The questions are sometimes unclear and my small group Bible study is often scratching our heads wondering what the questions are trying to get at. The lessons haven't helped us dig into the passages. In the past we have used NavPress's LifeChange series and I think we will happily return to those once we finish with this one.

Some good insights and perceptive questions. Commentary was brief though and not as extensive as we thought Wright would be.

Excellent study guide. Interesting that the author thinks Paul wrote this from Ephesus while most scholars I found think he was in Rome. But, that's incidental. The scriptures speak for themselves and the questions are excellent guides for discussion.

Not what I had hoped for in a commentary on Philippians!

I'm really enjoying this workbook long with his commentary.

I really loved going through Philippians with this. N.T. asks some really great questions and shines light on interesting parts of the text to bring about some good devotional time. Defintiely recommended.

Having an inquiring mind, I purchased this volume as source material for wide ranging research I conduct into all things metaphysical.I have to say, I found it pithy and thought-provoking. Some may view this a journey into the sacred science of the magi...others, a journey of self reflection. Whatever your view, anything that helps us break away from the senses-numbed mindset of the world is good in my book.Stop and think. Look inside and see yourself as you truly are. To "Know" yourself, is the beginning of enlightenment.Try it...I think you'll be amazed. :)

Typos, too basic for my taste and I personally wouldn't really buy it reading what I've read now. It's only 23 small pages which I was surprised, but what really disappointed me was the typos and lack of diversity in grammar and word usage. It's literally about as basic as you could get, possibly for a middle school level learning. I would have preferred a bit more for this book for the price paid for it... or around $4-$5 total. That's just my opinion.

Short and to the point! This is a great read to help motivate one on the path to becoming the greatest version of themselves. One aspect I loved about this book is the fact that if even if you weren't familiar or perhaps are at the point where you were a touch uncomfortable with Luciferian philosophy, the contents in this book still hold true for all. From this it shows that Luciferian philosophy is for all who seek to be their best selves. Those who seek illumination and to be the cause of their life and not the effect of the external. If your curious about The Luciferian way of life this is a phenomenal book to get you started... Fiat Lix (Let There Be Light!)

This 'book' has good intentions, but could honestly fit on a few pages if it weren't in huge font with huge margins and spaces in between paragraphs. Littered with spelling and grammatical errors. The author only provides quotes and references from himself. Unless you're an utter novice to the idea of believing in yourself and acting upon those beliefs, skip it.

Great introduction into the philosophy of the Luciferian Order.Highly recommended for anyone who is ready to pull back the curtain of fear and seek the light.However, a few typos caused me to give it 4 instead of 5 stars.

For those who are open to the message this is a fantastic book. An exposition on the process and experience of Self realization.

Makes me understand a higher self is and can be attained. But the writer never revealed the formula for its attainment. The book has been well written.

This is one of those books that when you pick it up you can't put it down. It is very informative and to the point. Which made it easy for me to focus. I think this would be helpful for Luciferians and non Luciferians alike.

Web of Truth can only be described as one heck of an addition to the Cadicle series. As the title suggests we finally unearth the lies the Priesthood have woven around the truth in a rather spectacular way. My hopelessly romantic heart was touched to the max as finally Wil and Saera finally tie the knot - I just love a good wedding (gushing at this point) and I totally could have done with the whole holo kit when it came to designing my own wedding dress, thus deferring the whole trying on endless gowns and the endless fittings, lol. I continue to enjoy Amy's wonderful and engrossing story that is soap opera at its best - great characters, political intrigue, family secrets, an enemy bent on pay back for perceived and valid injustices, esoteric and existentianial matters, and racial evolution - the Cadicle series has it all. I am now looking forward to the next in series.

I love this series despite it's limitations. The characters are well developed. However, they are unrealistic. Those with virtuous characters are seemingly incorruptible and saintly while villains are seemingly irredeemable and incapable of acting ethically--even within some twisted framework in which evil deeds are considered praiseworthy. Still, I have avidly devoured each book in the series because the author has created a consistent and believable technological universe in which Terran society has flourished for tens of thousands of years. I highly recommend the series.

This installment in 5he acadicle series was all about relationships. It skillfully navigates the ins and outs of family ties, which can either build up or take down. It is also a exposition on how hope plays such a large part in attitudes about what will be.

An exciting read with interesting characters and a compelling plot. I see where the next volume is going but can't imagine where the series will move beyond that. Can't wait!

Have read all four this week. Fast moving, exciting, interesting characters and good plot. Not alot of space "tech". More about character development. Getting ready to dowload five.

There are few writers that have grabbed my attention this well Heinlen, Asminov and others. I hope to read more of her work in the future.

Outstanding plot. One of those books you stay up until the wee hours of the morning to finish.

The adventure takes shape with many unknowns pulling the MCs. I am really enjoying this tale which grows in complex crafting by Ms DuBoff.

I give this collection only one star. 90% of the stories were rather ridiculus. The writing felt like a bad translation into English. Characters were inconsistent and came across as unlikable. The storylines were rather uneven, the main characters appeared rather stupid an whiny. The Amish stories were were slightly better, but not enough to make the collection worth buying. If you think buying these books, don't waste your money.

I loved the historical romance stories in this collection. I am a sucker for mail order bride stories! Although I have read a lot of them, I still enjoy reading about the quandaries the ladies find themselves in and the courage it takes to make such a change. It is an enduring theme. Annie Boone is the master of these stories!I enjoyed the Regency romances too. Kelly Ann Bruce tells a good story.This collection will keep you entertained for many hours! You won't be disappointed!

This a twenty book collection of sweet romances. I enjoyed all but the Amish romances, but I have a certain bigotry against stories about the Amish, not the Amish themselves. These stories are best taken one at a time and I wish I had done that instead of reading strait through. I would have enjoyed them more.

This was 20 different stories. They were all well written. If you like clean stories then you will love these stories.

Each author was good in their own story telling. The different genres mixed together was also a plus. Usually I do not care for Amish stories but these were quite good.

Clean, sweet romance and each story is a quick read. I highly recommend them!

I loved reading the stories in this series of books. They were all so well-written and entertaining. Thank you so much for many hours of happy reading.

This is a bodywork book and little more. I was expecting a detailed guide to full restoration, but this book barely touches on the mechanical aspects, and is vague at best in that respect. It does cover the bodywork very well so I'll keep it for that.

This book is exactly what it states. It walks you through the entire restoration process of the author's 1968 (California Special) Mustang. It tells how to do everything from all the way from disassembly to paint & wiring. It's a well thought out and informative book. My only constructive criticism is that sometimes the pictures are small, and their subject is of such a small area that it's hard to tell where exactly you are looking on the car. However, the tips and tricks that you can learn from this book are both innumerable and invaluable. It's a great reference book for a project.

There are some tips in this book, but when there are sentences like the following: "Next to be installed is the oil pump, the front timing cover, and the oil pan." with no further information, I have to admit there seem to be steps missing. What about the gaskets that go with the oil pan? Do we just skip that step? I would return if I didn't get it for 7 bucks and did find a few hints I'll use.

I took a numerical linear algebra course from Dr. Watkins while a graduate student at WSU. We used this as our text. This book is one of the best written and most useful books I own. I still regularly go back to it when I need to work something out. The tone is conversational but precise. The topics flow together very nicely. There is a wonderful spread of different ideas presented... From numerical linear algebra to PDEs and calculus - all of which is applied. Great!Most importantly (as far as I'm concerned), the focus of this text is on actually *doing* the math. There are certainly proofs in this book but there isn't a stupid amount of theory. It is very down to earth. I used Matlab while in school - and am not porting all of the algorithms I wrote for the class into R.Highly recommended! {I would also suggest getting 'Matrix Analysis' by Johnson and Horn. But the Matrix Analysis book doesn't have nearly as much as far as application.}

After looking at a few books on matrix computations I believe that that Fundamentals of Matrix Computations by David S. Watkins does the best job of balancing theory and practice. Being a self learner I found this book easy to read, provided enough practical advice to write high quality algorithms, and provided a good foundation for more advanced subjects. Be sure to at least read through all the exercises since they often cover new material not discussed in the main section. Its worth working through many of the exercises and enough information is provided in general to validate your solution. As a self learner I'm often frustrated with some books that provided exercises but no way to know if you're right or not. I even went on to write a linear algebra library in Java which uses this book as the primary reference for a few of the algorithms, search for EJML if you are curious.Golub and Van Loan's book covers much more material than Watkins but in a much more terse fashion. By terse I don't mean that Golub/Van Loan's is hard to understand, it is a very good book, but it is terse. I tend to use Golub/Van Loan's book more as a reference if I need to look something up quickly or if the material is not covered else where. There are also some situations important details are not mentioned in that book but are mentioned in Watkins' book. I have also looked though Numerical Linear Algebra by Trefethen and Bau. That book provided a good general high level overview of the basic subjects and in few cases was easier to understand, but I found it on the whole lacking in detail and often did not discuss important implementation issues.(This review is for the 2nd Edition. I have yet to look at the 3rd.)

I love the format of this book, it explains a topic from the ground up and you understand the roots of the problem and the roots of the solutions. In my case, I was specifically looking for a book covering orthogonal transformations and the fastest way to update existing orthogonal-decompositions e.g. QR. The author does a great job explaining the use cases for employing these transformations and without taking a lot for granted explains from the ground up how they work i.e. very nicely explains Givens rotations and Householder reflectors. This book offers the best introduction to the topic whereas IMO Golub's requires some level of familiarity with the subjects already.I'm working in a High-Performance implementation of an algorithm whose main bottlenecks are related to matrix computations. This book along with Golub's have been by my side since I started the project. I highly recommend it.

This book does quite the achievement of giving a very clear and rigorous presentation of the Arnoldi and implicitely restarted Arnoldi processes, which are far from being easy to understand. There are enough proofs to understand the theory and a lot of exercices to make you manipulate the concepts. In definitive, this is an excellent book!

when i first saw this book, i was very excited. i would have rated it 5 stars at that time. It's a much easier read than Golub's "matrix computations" and Demmel's "Applied Numerical Linear Algebra".but then I saw Trefethen and Bau's "Numerical Linear Algebra", and I was totally amazed by that book. By comparison, this book by Watkins can only be rated 4 stars. It just doesn't match up to Trefethen's book in terms of elegance, smoothness, intuitiveness, and more importantly, focusing on the essence instead of being buried in the details.if you are really interested in the topic of matrix computation, I suggest you start with Trefethen's book, and use Golub's book as reference later on.

I used this book to learn iterative methods and absolutely loved it. The explanations are clear and the coverage of techniques is very comprehensive. The chapters on SVD (see cover illustration) and eigenvalue decomposition are also very well explained. I found it to be engaging and more approachable for a novice than Golub and van Loan (which by the way, you *should* read after reading Watkins :-))

Concepts are explained lucidly. The exercise problems are interesting. It would be a good idea to read this book first before moving on to books like the one by Golub/ Van Loan. Useful for self study...

I bought this book because the crosswords that appear in the daily issue of USA TODAY are half-way decent. Of the 200 puzzles I found about half to be acceptable crosswords. The rest contain clues that are some sort of irrelevant or incoherent pun or wordplay sentences or titles, some ridiculously lengthy, while the small number of straight clues does not enable one even to start figuring out such sentences. Quite a lot of entries try to replicate not only colloquial language, but gangbanger slang, with some entries not even found in the Urban Dictionary. The majority of the clues are aimed at celeb wannabes as they come from pop culture hinting at some character on a TV show, movie, play, novel, sports team, etc., and their relatives, or even their exes. The plethora of arbitrary abbreviations (the first three letters of any word are considered an abbreviation!), some typos and pure errors (such as attributing the lute to Homer) reflect ignorance and deficient editing. The worst feature of this edition is that, unlike spiral crossword editions, it is in paperback form that makes working on puzzles cumbersome.

We love the USA Today puzzle series. The 'difficulty' level is just right for us. Only wish they would publish these in a spiral binding, as this book is a little hard to handle for working the puzzles. We usually cut out the page we're working on, then throw it away when done.

I love doing crosswords, and like them to be challenging, but not stupidly "clever." These puzzles meet my criteria. They're also generic and the book is a perfect size to take along when traveling. In fact, I like this, and Crossword 1, so much that when I finish this one I'm going to order both again and give myself a second chance at them!

Tougher than expected. For the average crossworder who wants to be able to at least finish 75% of the crossword on their own, this may be too tough. My boyfriend and I are both college educated with bachelors degrees (3 between the both of us) and we can get about 30-40% of the way through before looking at the solutions for help. Not that a college degree means you can finish crossword puzzles, I'm just saying I thought we were intelligent enough to have fun with these crosswords but we might be ditching the books soon.

Bought it for a hospitalized friend. Liked it so much I bought one for myself and am glad I did. Challenging but not absurd. Really a crossword lovers find.l

I am pleased with the USA Today Crossword books. They have a good balance of difficultand â€œaccessibleâ€ clues to keep your interest and keeping the book open isnâ€™t too hard to write. I recently spent 4 inflight hours with this book and it made passing the time more pleasant . 200 puzzles in the book is a huge plus. Some competing brands only have 50 and are quickly solved.

I bought this book after completing the first in the series since I enjoyed that one. The puzzles are generally great with the exception of those writtened by a duo whose clues are sometimes obscure and often make little sense. I cringe when I turn the page and see their names. But that's just crosswords. My main criticism of this book, albeit picky, is the paper it's printed on. The last book was on smooth white paper, while Book 2 is on softer grey stuff reminiscent of old comic books. Interestingly, the first book was printed in China and Book 2 in the USA. I thought the good stuff came from the USA.

These puzzles are not too hard, and not too easy. Very clever clues.We quit the USA Today newspaper, so it's nice to have these.

I acquired this science fiction novel from LibraryThing Early Reviewer program, free of charge in exchange for this review.Apparently this is book four of a series, and while it is not strictly necessary to have read its three predecessors, I canâ€™t imagine why you would start with book four. For that matter, it seems silly to offer this novel in exchange for a review. People who have read the first three installments are probably going to buy the fourth. I canâ€™t imagine why anyone would start with this one. Perhaps they think that the reviewers will be compelled to go and buy the first three, but having been filled in on the â€œback storyâ€ through frequent information dumps, Iâ€™m not likely to go back and read a book that has already been summarized.In Cibola Burn, the universe has been opened to colonization through discovery of an alien constructed time portal. Colonists have jumped the gun and established a colony on Ilus, also named New Terra, without the consent of the United Nations or the Outer Planets Association (two competing governing bodies). Details of this settlement are apparently part of one of the preceding books. The UN has granted a charter to a multi-national corporation to explore and settle the planet, as well as exploit its valuable lithium deposits. This obviously creates conflict between the rogue colonists and the corporation.James Holden, seemingly the hero of the series, has been appointed as the mediator of the dispute. Upon his arrival, several acts of terrorism have already been perpetrated by the colonists and escalated by the corporate security forces. However, the planet presents its own set of dangers as both natural forces and long dormant alien constructs come to life.This is pretty run of the mill science fiction, with little to differentiate it from hundreds of other such stories. Perhaps I would feel differently if I had read the first three books of the series, but regardless, if you are looking for space opera, Peter Hamilton does it far better.

UPDATE 3/30/2017 --- Yesterday I got an update email from Amazon saying that the audio narration has been updated:"""Dear Audible Listener, We are contacting you because you have reviewed the title â€œCibola Burnâ€ by James S. A. Coery (sic). The original recording has now been replaced with a new performance by Jefferson Mays. If you own this audiobook, simply re-download it from your library to access the new recording."""I downloaded the new narration and rejoiced in the sweet tones and characterizations we have all come to enjoy from Jefferson Mays. I almost cried. Although I am 2/3 of the way through the book, I am happy to listen to the rest via audio now because of this.OLD REVIEW CONCERNING PREVIOUS NARRATION:This review pertains to (mostly) the audio narration which is the worst audio narration I've listened to for any book in my life. I'm about 30% through this book at this point. The first three books have great audio narration and I was really looking forward to listening to this one. Where and why Amazon/Audible decided to hire this brainless and belligerent narrator is beyond me. Firstly, the narrator obviously hadn't listened to the previous narrator's reads of the previous books to provide any sense of continuity. Secondly, this narrator tries to 'act' the characters and does a really poor job. Unfortunately, he reads this book like it is a dime store Western/Romance novel. All the men have western cowboyish accents and all the women are read as either breathy or breathless voices. It is beyond distracting. And, even worse, this new dumb narrator's acting interpretation of Christian Avasarala is a out of breath woman on the verge of hysterics rather than the appropriate biting cynical political genius with an Indian accent. Those characters he deems not of the cowboy or helpless woman type of voice he gives either a super poor australian accent or some mixture of transylvanian/slavic (seriously sounds like a bad Dracula voice for someone with a middle eastern name). Even more unfortunate is that he has decided to provide an American Indian accent to the ghostly character of Miller. WTH!!!So, if you enjoy cheap western novels and want a book of the expanse series read to you in this way, you will have no problem with this book. If you've listened to the narration from the previous books and expect the same 'feel' of narration, skip it for this one. You'll go stark raving mad. There is hope however, for the subsequent novel narration as it reverts back to the first narrator. From wiki: This narrator's name is Erik Davies (you should be fired) and is only for Cibola Burn and the novellas Gods of Risk and The Churn. All the others are the narrator Jefferson Mays.Dear Amazon/Audible: If you switch narrators in a series, your quality control (I'm sure you have none) needs to require that the new narrator provide narration continuity. I wish I could get my money back for the audio purchase of this book. Please hire Jefferson Mays to record narration for Cibola Burn, Gods of Risk, and The Churn to replace the TERRIBLE narration of Erik Davies. Erik Davies should only be hired to record narration for awful cheap dime store Western novels. If the authors are reading this and have any pull, ask Amazon/Audible to fix this. You almost lost me as a reader.As far as the novel goes, it is a slow starter and more boring and world building type of novel than the first three. So go into it with that in mind. Maybe by the end something cool will happen but I'm not there yet.I got pulled into reading/listening to the novels by watching the TV series. Has been totally worth my time until I encountered this exceptionally poor narration.

Characters are uninteresting and most are infuriatingly unrelatable. The main antagonist is a flat out psycopath that doesn't really seem to have a self-serving agenda. Unlike in abbaddon's gate this characters is cold and calculated but his agenda isn't self serving. He talks about leaving a legacy as if he is some sort of founding father but is just a pawn to the company.The book constantly drones on about the terrible living conditions of the characters to the point you start feeling it yourself. 90% of the book was about how tired someone was or the detailed technical plan of a high risk low reward mission. There were also no characters in the book to help vent the readers frustration of the situation. No Miller to shoot the bad guy in the face before the villain justified his crimes, no Anna to yell out at the frustration of the situation, no Bull to take control of a situation that was spiraling out of control. No one seemed to take any decisive action. Everyone was pussyfooting around the issue except the bad guy who really didn't care making the situation worse.To make it worse it seems that the author (for whatever reason) decides to skim over the most important plot points in the book.***SPOILER ALERT***(I need to vent here)Seriously! WTF! Did Miller really die for real? How can he die? I thought he was omnipresent. He didn't die when the station was shut down, why did he die when the planet shut down? If he did really die why did he sacrifice himself to save the people when his main purpose was to find out what happened? Why hasn't Elvi mentioned the mysterious object in the dark spot? Why did the planet explode? Why did Holden scrape off the protomolecule off his ship to destroy it? Why in gods name did the book end with Bobbie when all these factors are still up in the air?

I've been growing out a pixie cut for the last three years, and, now that my hair is mid-back, have been wanting to try out more styles on it. Since I've had short hair most of my adult life, I've never had the chance to play with various braiding techniques, so I ordered this book and also Braids, Buns, and Twists!: Step-by-Step Tutorials for 82 Fabulous Hairstyles, which both arrived this week. I really like them both!There aren't as many styles in _DIY Braids_ as there are in Butcher's _Braids, Buns, and Twists_ book, which has 82 styles, so that other book has a bit more to choose from. There is also some overlap between the two books, but I'm glad I have them both since each has its own merits.This book by Sasha Coefield excels in the lovely, large step-by-step photos that are included for every one of the 30 or so styles that are included. Each photo corresponds to a step in the instructions, so it's very easy to follow along with it.Concerning the styles, I think that there is a lot to choose from in this book. The author starts off with the basic braids (French braid, Dutch braid, fishtail, and lace), and then she creates more complicated styles that build on those four basic types. Each style includes a large photo of the completed look, and then the above-mentioned photos of each step.As a 42-year-old, I was worried that the styles might be too "young" for me, but I found myself wanting to try out each style in this book. (As dorky as it sounds, I've wanted to try out a Dutch braid since seeing the first _Hunger Games_ movie, and I accomplished it today, thanks to Coefield's fabulous instructions! Yay!)Each style can also be done on your own without any help from someone else, which is a definite strength of this book. Coefield also rates each style in terms of the difficulty. While most of the styles are done on Coefield's straight, blond hair, a second model with brown wavy/curly hair also models some of the looks, which is really nice so you can see how they will look if you don't have straight hair.To create the styles in this book, you also don't need any fancy tools, just a comb, some small hair elastics, some bobby pins, and hairspray. You will also want to have medium to long hair to do the styles.Sure, you can follow along with You Tube tutorials or blog posts to do your hair, but I like having styles in a book to make it quick and easy to do my hair in the morning. I keep my hairstyling books in my bathroom, which makes them easy to grab on mornings when I'm feeling like doing my hair in a more adventurous style.Have fun!

I bought this book as a gift for my 11 year old niece. Usually we go online to find YouTube videos about braiding but we don't need to anymore! The pictures and directions are simple and concise. It is written so that she can learn how to do the braids on her own hair step-by-step. There are a lot of options and unique styles that are labeled easy, intermediate or difficult and range from a basic rope braid to multiple intertwined fishtails. The day after Christmas we put sticky notes on the braids we wanted to try and almost the whole book was filled with sticky notes after we were done browsing. The models in the book have both straight hair and curly hair. I highly recommend this easy to follow braid book.

This book has many braiding styles. It is easy to follow, has good instructions. Like the other braiding book I bought, the hair styles are for every day or good evening dressed up. This is not full of far out runway model hair. It can prick your imagination so you will have many style to choose from. I already can braid and French braid, but this book has many other braiding styles, with good instructions. Remember, your first tries may not come out perfect.. Practice, or get a friend to help you get started. I do not use a mirror because it is backward an confuses me. Good book.

Many basic braids explained with excellent pictures to accompany clear written instructions. I have nothing against people with naturally wavy hair, but the braids using the wavy-haired models were difficult to follow in the photographs. Other than that, a nice thick book with great styles, instructions and braids.Helpful tips, easy to follow instructions, great photographs.

I bought this for my 9 year old niece that loves to learn new things and do braids. I thought this would be a nice xmas for her to learn how to braid hair with her friends. I like that the book has simple step by steps with photos to follow, I would buy this again.

My 12 year old daughter loves this book. Her and all of her friends love trying out all the different braids on each other's hair, and the instructions are good. They haven't found any that they aren't able to follow!

I was really excited to get this book so I can learn different braid styles. The illustrations are okay and somewhat easy to follow. I tried the fishtail braid,it turned out nice and my co-workers liked it too. I will try more styles from this book. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.

The book is nice, but I think they could have had better written instructions, and maybe a few more incremental pictures for each style.
