I listened to this as an audio book and found the information so helpful that I ordered a printed copy. Honestly, I was really disappointed with this book. I saw the reviews and really hoped that it would help me figure out what I could and needed to eat. Advice like get a happy meal at McDonalds instead of an adult meal was not the kind of help I needed. I eat healthy, work out frequently, and maintain a healthy weight. I was looking for substitutions for things I ate like what to eat instead of oatmeal and rice without adding sodium, fat, and calories.

I recently plowed through several dozen books from my local library, and decided this was the one I had to own myself. The perfect choice if you've just been diagnosed as prediabetic or diabetic. Accurate, up-to-date science. Helpful, clearly presented information. Balanced presentation of the four diets other books try to claim as miracle cures (Mediterranean, vegetarian, low-carb, DASH). Meal and snack suggestions, plus easy recipes. Sensible education, encouraging news, even good writing.

While this book will be helpful it was not what I was expecting. I was looking for a book to give me food substitutions. Like what to eat when you are wanting potato chips etc. Still, it will be helpful.

I got this book after my husband was diagnosed with type II diabetes. It gives just the right amount of information in a well-organized, digestible format. Lots of practical ideas on how to approach eating/living with diabetes-- e.g. how do you approach ordering off the menu at a Mexican restaurant.

I'm so glad that I got this book. I got some other books from the library that were not as easy to understand as this book. It is very comprehensive and gives you almost all you need to know to handle your type II diabetes. I have so many pages marked with post-its for future reference. Also includes recipes and info on fast food and eating out. This is an invaluable book for anyone who has been diagnosed with this condition.

Great book. Exactly the information I was looking for and more. New to this entire subject and the information compiled in this book is clear and understandable for a newbie.

Since I have read the book it gave me food for thought. How to change and control my blood sugar with food and the amount on my plate

For anyone recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, this is a wonderful guide to help you with the transition to what is basically a life changing event. Good read and a lot of helpful ideas. Not to mention some pretty good recipes.

Book is outdated and very technical about heart rate zones. Never discussed things like arm positioning, ground contact time, right left balance, breathing techniques etc. I never got a running plan out of the book except don't always run in your aerobic zone; push yourself to run partially in the >80% heart rate zone.

This book is awesome. I'm looking to up my game with running and this books has been a wonderful, insightful resource. Their approach and recommendations to creating a "balanced" exercise program and the importance of your heart rate to help increase endurance was very informative. I have a HRM on its way and am looking forward to taking my fitness to the next level .

My son will be starting cross country this fall and track this coming spring so I bought this for him for pointers. Thanks!

A lot of repetition but quite good. It clarified a lot of info for me and really underscored the things I need to do to take my running to the next level.

I bought this book because of its claims that it contains "[t]he latest research on special concerns such as running...during pregnancy...and preventing amenorrhoea in female distance runners is also highlighted." She gave it back to me saying that she did not find any of those topics covered. In fact, the book does not even say the word "pregnant" or "pregnancy" at all.That being said, I found the heart rate sections helpful for my own benefit and I have been training with it since. As another reviewer pointed out, some of the charts do not match-up or are inconsistent with the text, but the general idea is there.As useful as it was for me, I really was hoping to find something definitive for my wife to continue running during pregnancy, and despite claims, this was not that book.

I tried all the technics and it really helped me. A must have ebook for all runners and all the guys that want to improve fitness.

One must always keep in mind though that when two previously married people marry again, there is always that challenge of blending in with each other's previous kids.This book provides helpful information on what one might expect from stepchildren. It includes the typical reaction of children from varying ages. Also there are steps and suggestions on how to become a better stepparent; like not overstepping your role vs that of the biological mother, establishing connection first before attempting to instill discipline ( how to discipline should be talked over first with the biological parent) etc.Quite a helpful book if you need a psychological, practical boost to starting the role of becoming a stepparent.

I have to admit my surprise with so many positive reviews - this book can only be described as BASIC. I suppose if you have never had kids of your own perhaps this is the book for you. But it spends so much time informing the reader about basic parenting skills (what every child needs) I found myself saying out loud "well, duh!" as I read it. I am disappointed to find no real unique information or deeper discussions of the complexity of emotions that go with undertaking step-parenting.

I am currently dating a man with three kids. I am the first person he dated that will be involved with the kids lives. Neither he nor his ex-wife have a good understanding of this whole step family relationship thing. Having read a couple of other books about children and stepfamilies I am especially enjoying the common sense guidance that this book is providing for areas I might need to approach in discussion to make a appropriate plan for a successful blending of our relationships. I bought this book with low expectations, but the book delivered a solid information. I’ve been thinking about developing a particular app and when I saw this book about app development for beginners, I thought I’d check it out, to see just what sort of expertize I would need to either do it myself or hire a programmer to create it for me. After reading the book, even though it’s a ‘beginners’ model, I’m going for the more help from someone who actually knows what he or she is doing. I understand that Android is open source, is Linux-based, which I haved used, and anyone can look into it and there a a host of categories, the difficult part being I have to make the choice as to which one to use. For me, being a complete neophyte, it would take to long of a learning curve and would take too much of my time away from my other projects. I’m sure, for someone with a little better understanding of programming, this could be a winner of a book as it is well researched and a step by step, easy to read guide.

This is a phenomenal book. This book introduces what you need to know about view XML as you go along, diving right into the real meat and potatoes of Android programming. The author of this book understands that the reader doesn't just want to place elements on a screen, but connect those elements, perform view transitions, and access unique and novel aspects of the Android API--and he certainly doesn't disappoint in satisfying the reader's desire in that regard. I enjoyed reading it because an application is simultaneously completing as you are reading it through. I would definitely recommend this book to any of my friends, looking to develop Android Applications. For anyone that is not really interested in Android Application Development, than this is definitely not their book. Examples are working and clearly explained step by step. There are a lot of code snippets that are worth saving.

This is a good, concise "quick start" guide for people new to Android development. It helps you get a good overview of the basic structure of an Android app and how they're put together. This book isn't really an introduction to programming (you'd have a hard time following it if you had no background at all), and it certainly isn't an "everything you ever wanted to know about Android" type book (think "high level overview and building blocks"), but it provides enough information to help you transition to developing on the platform more quickly.My only gripe about this book is the formatting on the Kindle edition. I'm not sure how I would've done it differently truthfully but the poor formatting sometimes made it difficult to follow the code samples.

This is very comprehensive and easy to learn and understand, Indeed for beginners.

I used to think it would take eternity to learn how to build an app, and most probably you have to be a professional programmer to pull this kind of thing off, but this book explains it all. It simplifies and demystifies it. So glad I found this book.

Another reviewer commented on the formatting of the Kindle edition. Trust me, the formatting on the paperback edition also sucks. I'm only on page 29 and the grammar Nazi in me is going crazy. Forget proofreading. The author (or editor) failed even to spell check this document. Folks, it's not that hard. The author provided what was to be a sample of code. Instead of properly formatted code each line is a bullet item. At the end of the sample we're left with a series of unmatched closing curly brackets. Compilers and interpreters are OCD. Most programmers are, too. The author obviously is not and this makes me question the value of the stuff that I don't know. If you're wrong about stuff that I do know I don't trust you with stuff that I don't know anything about. I rated it as three stars because most folks seem to think it's OK and I don't want to argue with them. I will say that I would not have purchased this had I been aware of the slovenly way it was thrown together.

The book does a poor job of explaining the process it's more of a glossary of terms than anything else. I wouldn't recommend this unless you already know how to program and need an index of terms.
