Among the Llama Llama board books, this was far and away my son's favorite. He started showing an interest in particular books at around nine or ten months, and the physical actions described in this book made it very fun for us to read. The first page, for instance, is "hop". So I would "hop" my son on my lap, much to his squealing delight. Even before he was talking, he quickly learned to recognize the words and pictures of this book, and would clap when we turned to the "clap" page. He often wanted to read it several times in a row, and eventually we wore out our first copy and had to replace it. We wore out a board book. Really.As with the other Dewdney books, the rhymes are cute and catchy, making it easy to catch and keep your little one's attention. The simplicity of the words makes it a good choice for early readers, but if your tot is a bit advanced on the language front, consider one of the hardcover Llama Llama books (longer, more complex words).

We checked this out at the public library, and my 5 month old son went crazy for it! I knew I had to buy it. We read it two or three times a day, ending each time with a hug just like in the book. When he is old enough to make the "tap," "clap," etc. movements, I think he will really enjoy that. Sturdy product; great price; simple words; predictable rhyme; easy to handle size--all make this perfect for baby and toddler.

This is my kid's very. favorite. book. As soon as we finish, she claps and turns it back to the front page. If we say "all done!" she shoves it into our hands. If we hide it, she looks for it. If anyone says hop, she runs to grab this book.I will say, this isn't a typical story, so if you're looking for that, this isn't the book for you.

OUR BABY LOVES THIS BOOK! Every night we have a night-time routine. She gets her bath, we put her in her PJ's, we read a book, say our night-time prayers, and kiss her goodnight. This is one of her favorite books. We always let her choose which book she wants to read and this one is picked all the time!

If your child is already a fan of Red Pajama or the other Llama Llama storybooks, they are probably too old for this board book.Our 3 year old loves Llama Llama Books. She regularly chooses one of the story books for her bedtime story. We were already owners of the original books (Red Pajama, Misses Mama, Mad at Mama, etc.) at the time and we pre-ordered all four of the board books. Our daughter was 2 at the time and we jumped on any new Llama Llama books that came out. Unfortunately, these books were a completely different level than the originals and we didn't realize it at the time because the Amazon description didn't have any age level information in it. We were very disappointed and our daughter showed no interest in the board books after the initial read. They are pure board books with very simple writing. We're talking 4-6 words per page with very little story. They may be good for babies and very young toddlers, but I can't imagine they will keep a child's interest very long. There are much better board books out there.In conclusion, if your child is already a fan of the original Llama Llama story books like Red Pajama and Misses Mama, do not buy these books. They are not the same and are for a much younger audience. You will be disappointed.

Story is great, the condition of the book not so great, it arrived bent out of shape.

This (along with Llama Llama Zippity-Zoom) is the first book my 9 month old son seems to be really into. He'll grab the book and crawl into my lap so I'll read it to him... Over... And over... He doesn't do this with any of the other books I leave out for him, and believe me--I've tried to get him interested in others. I think it's the rhyming and the fact that it's really short. Perfect for babies!

My granddaughter LOVES this book. We do the actions together, my favorite is the big hug I get at the end when it says "big hug now"! She loves all the Llama Llama books (she is turning two years old) and I buy them for her when they become available. But this is probably her pick.Mine too, just for that hug.

I saw the movie before reading this. Then went and re-watched it afterwards. The novelization provided the answers the movie had left me wondering. It filled in some of the holes that had me scratching my head by giving answers to the back story of the characters that the movie did not cover. Some of the material did not match up exactly as it happened in the movie, but had the same results. I wish some, not all, of the content in this would have made it in to the movie. I believe it would have made it better.

I bought this book after seeing Alita: Battle Angel twice at my local Imax. Very well written and an enjoyable read, it mostly follows the movie (maybe 95%) and gives more insight into the characters. Of course it can't compete with the movie for action, but I loved the way it delved into the thoughts of the characters in many of the scenes. It gave insight into their motivations that the movie couldn't (there just wasn't enough time). I highly recommend this book if you're seen Alita. And if you haven't, you need to.

Kudos on writing this. But I do not see it as a proper novelization. Scenes were changed (sometimes dramatically), added scenes. Sentences were changed (also sometimes dramatically) and how they said it. And there were completely new, unnecessary, scenes. There were even really obvious changes. Colors, memorable parts. Even really big things, like personalites.I would say it's more like the unrevised script where they had originals for the movie and smashed parts of the manga in it before they did revise before final filming. And I like the movie better.

Faithful novelization of the film with some extra material not shown in the theatrical release of the movie. I've seen some fans of the manga wonder why people don't just read those instead and why this was necessary, but I'm glad this exists as I love the cinematic reimagining of Alita's story.

I wanted to read it before watching the movie. It was engrossing and I finished it in two days. Seems pretty close to the manga too.

Alita is an engaging and likable character who faces a wide enough variety of villains to challenge even a battle angel.

If you need a book that reminds you every 3-4 pages that a specific fantasy is "not weird, and okay to have as long as everyone is safe and you aren't hurting anyone," then you should buy this book. I, personally, don't need that much coaching. Perhaps I drastically over-estimate the common sense of most Americans, but to me, the insights gleamed from the giant research study which resulted in this book are interwoven too tightly with what I feel are obvious statements like "it's illegal to expose yourself to strangers," and that makes the book frustrating to read.My other problem is that the book advises looking for outlets to help explore certain fantasies like nonmonogamy, group sex, and BDSM, but does not go into detail about any specific meetup groups, dungeons, clubs, sex parties, sex toys, or online communities to facilitate that. The author only off-handedly mentions FetLife once and does not otherwise point you towards any particular resources to help you find what he says you should look for. Every time an interesting point was made or my ears perked up at a research finding, the book failed to follow up with any real details. And while specific sexual fantasies from the study are quoted near the beginning of the book, that goes away entirely after the second or third chapter, leaving you with somewhat vague findings. The author doesn't even really commit to any of the broad advice given near the end of the book, adding a paragraph-long caveat after every single idea that says "but this might not work" or "but I'm not saying this is definitely the answer." One disclaimer at the beginning of the book could have replaced literally 20 percent of this book that consists entirely of disclaimers. I'm not exaggerating.Finally, the science is nearly all correlation, and a huge chunk of the causation is speculative. The phrase "this may be because..." is everywhere, and even more disclaimers are given when the author guesses as to why something might be. Granted, some citations are made when explaining concepts rooted in previous research, but this is the exception, not the rule. And he also leans on evolutionary biology quite a bit for some claims, which can actually be somewhat contentious in the scientific community. So while you'll learn what's "normal" and what fantasies people have, the "science" behind it all is a bit smoke-and-mirrors. More research will need to take place before many of the ideas in this book are validated.This review is coming from a relatively liberal young adult with a lot of familiarity in the fields of science and sexuality, so you might love the book if you're not me. I hope you find this review helpful, and that future editions fix some of the issues with this first run.

This book really helped me and my cell mate connect on a whole other level. I highly recommend it to anyone out there that wants to connect with their cell mate on more than a gang level.

I was disappointed in this book and came here to write a critical review. However, when I read the review written by Cody Gough, I realized that he expressed my own views more eloquently than I was prepared to do. Please read and take that review to heart. I'd add only one more criticism - The fantasy survey much touted in some reviews pales in comparison to what we have learned from data-mining the online viewing habits of hundreds-of-millions of people as is described in better books.

The book is based on survey responses from several thousand people from all walks of life. I'm not sure how much stock you can place on that. The vast majority of people would not take the time to fill out a very long questionnaire of this sort. So I don't think you can make broad generalizations from it.The book is much too wordy. The author makes some interesting points and observations but he goes on much too long. A lot of it deals with BDSM which has zero interest for me. I did a lot of skipping over paragraphs. I can't say I found the to be as interesting as I thought it would be.

Justin Lehmiller created the perfect book on sexual fantasies (and, therefore, sexuality in general). He based the book on a massive data set which gives him more credibility than anybody else out there. But, equally importantly, he makes the results readable, interesting, relevant, and useful. He slices and dices the data in all sorts of different ways which allows him to extract an amazing variety of lessons. I can't even guess at the hours spent poring over the data to learn everything that he did, but the world is a better place for his tireless efforts. The only thing better than reading this book is your partner also reading it and then the two of you discussing it.

If you haven't been paying attention to information coming from sex researchers, or haven't cared, this book is loaded with new thoughts on what's normal. It turns out that a huge percentage of American's have sexual fantasies, if not life styles, that would still be label deviant by a lot of people

Dr. Lehmiller has written such an important book-- one that educates, normalizes, and invites us into a deeper and more compassionate relationship with our sexuality. I look forward to recommending this book to students, clients, and friends!

I read his book The Psychology of Human Sexuality for a college class and liked his writing style. I thought I would further educate myself with this book. Again his writing style was easy to read and he does a good job educating the reader.

As a connoisseur of hiking books and having spent a summer during college (many moons ago) exploring this region of France, I was drawn to this book about hiking the western Côte d' Azur. The book is lightweight, perfect for carrying or slipping into a backpack. The table summarizing hikes by difficulty, distance and terrain will prove particularly helpful. Other positive aspects in the book include the color photographs, the useful contact information and the interesting tidbits regarding history of the area, plants and the like. My only regret is that our vacation plans this year do not include the Côte d' Azur, so will have to postpone putting this book to use first-hand. Maybe next year . . .

This book really made the trails of the Cote d'Azur come to life. On nearly every page, there is at least one breath-taking image which captivates the mind and soul and brings you there. Likewise, the write-up of each hike is written in the second-person and makes the reader feel as if he or she was currently hiking the trail. This book covers lots of useful information including the distance of each hike, the average time to complete the trail, the elevation (or elevations!), and the difficulty. Each hike comes with the authors recommendations regarding considerations of the trail, useful contact information, how to get there, and other things in the area. As a bit of a bonus, there are several pages of "interesting asides" which will teach you where cork comes from, how reeds for musical instruments are made, and much, much more!

I've hiked in France, but I had no idea what a beautiful and interesting region Cote d'Azur was until I read Florence Chatzigianis's, "26 Gorgeous Hikes on the Western Cote d'Azur." Now I want to go there, her guidebook in hand, and try out the trails she describes so vividly!Chatzigianis's book is not only informative, but also easy to use. She's organized the 26 hikes by region, which enables visitors to quickly find a trail nearby. I particularly like the way that the "Table of Hikes," breaks the hikes into categories of "easy" and "medium," and then gives the distance and time needed for each. And since I like to know whether I'll be doing a lot of climbing in the mountains or a bit of strolling by the shore, I find the small drawings showing the elevation range of each hike are also quite useful.Chatzigianis's colorful photos are a rich accompaniment to the text. Not only are there pictures of the beautiful countryside, but also of the many historical and cultural sights that most auto-touring visitors miss.Finally, I found that the "Aside" sections--short essays on such intriguing topics as "Hiking Under Water," (on the island of Port-Cros) and "The Cork Oak" (some of which you see on the Lac de l'Ecureuil trail), make "26 Gorgeous Hikes on the West Cote d'Azur" an indispensable guide for any traveler who wants to truly experience France's Mediterranean coastline.Highly recommended!

This book also contains many other tips and tricks that nursing professionals should know throughout their life. It is really a collection of references for nursing professional.

The book was written in 2015 and many of the lab values are out-dated already. Granted many of them are still applicable and hospital policies vary, but you have to make sure you have the right info when it comes to the NCLEX. The general info given is useful for highs and lows and what s/s you might see. It's a good refresher, just be aware that you'll need a seconardy current resource.

Some of the labs are not correct and the book is actually very thin ( 25 pages max). Bad purchase and highly dissatisfied!

This is absolutely a must have for nurses because they are the very first person to attend to this kind of patient’s need. All the information for the laboratory values, procedures and their specific purposes were given with best accuracy. I like the explanations or reasons provided on each lab test, it will give a better idea to the patients why they have to undergo such test. Nurses will be equipped with these helpful guidelines and to be ready for NCLEX. The book is concise and straight to the point. I will highly recommend this.

The book itself is fantastic, five stars for content, but the kindle version has some serious issues-- many symbols that should be superscripts are not, some mathematical expressions have distorted layout, or worse, appear as scanned images--sometimes of such low resolution as to make the indices illegible. For the forty dollars I paid it's a slap in the face. Again I want to stress the high quality of the writing and content, but think twice before investing in the kindle version.

Great Intro ...Mermin gets right into the thick of it quickly ...this is one of the best physics/computer science books I have ever read over the past 50 years !

Great introductory book and can be considered a stepping stone into the quantum computing world.

This book is fantastic. Wonderfully clear and short enough to actually read. I wish all science texts were like this.A course in quantum mechanics is recommended. It might not be necessary but I doubt much could be understood without some understanding of the physics behind the building blocks of the theory and what might be required in actually building a functioning quantum computer. I know it's not necessary and someone who accepts the superposition of states easily could get through the book, but I don't think they would really have grokked the fullness (but for that matter nor do I).The book builds up some basic QM and the actions of the various gates acting on a Qbit, then goes through several introductory problems to demonstrate how a quantum computer is capable of fundamentally different computations than its classical counterparts. This works up to Shor's Algorithm (with a very nice demonstration of why it is robust to small errors in the phase), Grover's search, and Quantum Error Correction.The appendices are also full of some of the best explanations I have ever read for many small calculations, tools, and puzzles. Bell states, GHZ, and other examples of quantum weirdness are covered well and it drives home the point that the most fundamental aspects of QM are easily illustrated without the bookkeeping associated with infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces.

Mermin is perhaps best known as the co-author of 'Solid State Physics', a longstanding text of its subject. But his interests are diverse, and one of these is presented here. He explains the intriguing use of quantum computing. Starting with the concept of a Qbit.The text assumes you've done some non-relativistic quantum mechanics. After all, the entire subject is based on quantum effects producing different results than traditional computing. You should know the bra and ket notation, that was first introduced by Dirac. This notation is amazingly concise and pervades the text. It is probably fair to say that 90% of the discussion uses this notation.The derivations are elegant and surprisingly simple, compared to the intricacies of other applications of quantum mechanics. There is relatively little discussion of experimental methods. This is primarily a theoretical text.One conclusion is that this field is young. No serious computations are yet capable, compared to those on computers using traditional classical physics.

Don't buy the Kindle version. The book itself has very solid content. However, the Kindle version has some major display issues that make the formulae very hard to read.

This book is made for the cruise passenger. That isn't to say other travelers won't get utility out of this book, but the focus is undoubtedly on those who have awakened in their stateroom, look out the window, and see a new coastline every day of their vacation.This focus is evident on the structure of the book. It doesn't go into exquisite detail of the various sites and attractions. Instead it is organized by region, and then brief overviews of each region and the attractions found therein. The overviews themselves don't read all that differently than the guidebooks you may be provided when you get on the ship. The value add here, to be clear, is the freedom to plan your own itinerary without being funneled into a particular tour provider. As it's not unheard of for tour companies to pay to, ahem, encourage cruise lines to recommend them, something like this helps you to get with a provider you are comfortable with, or for that matter strike out on your own.I do wish the book were produced somewhat differently. The book is traditionally bound, with pages of high quality paper and marker covers that allow you to save a particular place in the book for easy reference. The downside is that maps and diagrams within the book sometimes span two pages, the middle of which disappear within the binding of the book.Also make no mistake - this is a relatively large book, owing to the wide range of countries and sites it covers. It's probably not something you are going to want to carry with you while ashore. I'm a fan of making photocopies of the relevant pages, but again, this is where the binding of the book is a weakness. It's hard to get it to lie flat on a photocopier.So the takeaway is that this is a book that offers you resources to tailor your own shore visits, which is good in and of itself. Sadly, those resources are sometimes tied up in a somewhat unwieldy presentation. It's still a valuable resource, if only to get you started on more in-depth research of those sites you want to see that may not be a part of a cruise ship's offerings.

Long, long ago, back in the ancient junior-high days, I played Dungeons & Dragons. This was back in the old boxed set era — what I still think of as the glory days of D&D — and I’ll freely admit it was a weird game. Most game sessions involved exploring underground dungeons populated by nothing by seemingly random collections of monsters living in squalor but surrounded by treasure. Wizards weren’t allowed to wear armor or carry weapons more significant than a dagger, and their spells disappeared from their minds as soon as they were cast — unless they’d memorized the same spell more than once. And there was some sort of armadillo that had somehow evolved the ability to cause metal to rust.But the weirdest thing of all was how many people believed that playing a game of pretend could cause you to worship the devil.I was lucky, because while my parents surely thought D&D was weird, they never believed it was evil, and they never told me I wasn’t allowed to play. But there were lots of people who bought into that ridiculous story. But why did people believe it? Why did people push it? What were they getting out of pushing something so utterly deranged?That’s what this book is about — why was there a huge moral panic about D&D (and roleplaying games in general), why were people so eager to believe that bookish teenagers were devil worshipers, who were the people helping to fan the flames, and what benefits did they gain from inventing conspiracy theories that made no rational sense?Laycock’s book is exhaustively detailed, detailing the history of the game and the panic from the beginning, setting down the names of a vast number of conspiracy theorists, and analyzing not just the motives of the theorists, but the many ways they were actually very similar to the teenagers they were targeting.Let’s start out with this, though — this isn’t an easy, two-nights-to-finish pop-psych skimmer. Those may sound easy and fun, but when you’re analyzing the research into these academic areas, they can be a bit of a slog to get through. There are pages of this book you may have to force yourself to get through, particularly if you’re not well-versed in these academic areas.This may sound like a bad thing, but it ain’t really. You learn stuff going through these sections, and learning this stuff helps you appreciate Laycock’s analysis later in the book. This is the nature of academic works, and it don’t make it bad just ’cause it ain’t easy.What are some of the things we learn in Laycock’s analysis? One of the key discussions is about play and imagination — particularly when it’s healthy and when it’s unhealthy, and what happens when people can’t tell the difference between their imaginations and reality. I don’t think it’ll come as a great surprise to anyone who’s followed this phenomenon before, but there are some serious similarities between D&D players and the conspiracy theorists who persecuted them. D&D players played at being brave heroes battling against monstrous horrors to save the innocent. And the conspiracy theorists like Patricia Pulling, William Dear, and Jack Chick also played at being brave heroes battling against monstrous horrors to save the innocent. Now which ones do you think knew they were playing a game, and which ones do you think had mistaken their game for reality?Even then, there are some items in here that still surprised me. I never really imagined there were people who were actually opposed to anyone using their imagination — but there are, because imagining things means thinking of things that God didn’t create. And this distrust of the imagination actually extends back centuries — some Greek philosophers didn’t trust fiction or the arts at all, and even Thomas Jefferson hated novels because he thought books should only convey things that were true, not falsities and fictions.There’s a lot of excellent stuff to learn in this book. If you’re an old-school gamer with a taste for the hobby’s history, if you’ve got an interest in moral panics, if you love learning new things about how humans use and abuse play and religion, you’ll probably really enjoy this book.

This book is a mix of RPG industry history, and sociology/religious studies text. The sociology parts are presented as an academic view of the various moral panics that have been associated with role playing games. The religious studies aspect includes an analysis of how RPGs are and are not similar to religion, and why this comparison was so often made in society at large. You may or may not agree with the author's conclusions but I feel it these are mostly a fair analysis and not merely a cheap shot at religion generally.The book is well written and the author keeps the subject matter interesting. For RPG fans, the history of TSR and White Wolf is worth the price of admission alone.

Excellent book! I highly recommend it if you remember all nonsense hysteria around D&D and wonderful what was going on. Its well researched and covers the clamour around Role Playing games in the 1980s and 90s. There is a lot to unpack in this book and honestly I will have to probably read it twice. Mr. Laycock lays out both the history around Dungeon and Dragon and the groups like BADD that claimed games such at it , were going to corrupt the young.

When I first saw this book I thought it was going to simply present the connection between the satanic panic and rpgs (with a focus on d&d). Having heard that story many times before, I was reluctant to read this book.But it actually has a lot of interesting insights, a unique methodology, and compelling argument that can be read profitability by scholars who are not gamers, and by gamers who think they already know the full story.Surprisingly, most gamers I know who have read the better known popular history books on gaming (like playing at the world) haven’t heard of this book.

Very insightful look into the root causes of the "Satanic panic" of the '70s-'90s, as well as the birth of TSR and White Wolf games. Yes, it's written with sociologists and religious studies majors in mind, but this is one of the few academic books on gaming that deserves a wider audience. The most enjoyable book on gaming culture I've read since I, Avatar by Mark Stephen Meadows.

Superb, thoughtful, well-researched. If you're interested in the history and culture of role-playing games, the nature of moral panics, or the sociology of religion, this is a fascinating read. Makes a good companion piece with one of my other favourite books about RPGs, Daniel Mackay's The Fantasy Role-Playing Game: A New Performing Art.
