I found this book interesting in content, as all WOW books that I have read, but Stackpole is positivly NOT one of my favorite writers. I found his style inconsistent, and the verbage is sometimes correctly accented, but mostly not as per the WOW Troll accents. this makes it rather hard reading and hard to understand at times. it was so inconsistent that you had to imagine HOW Vol'jin or other characters talked. This is not what I expect when I read a World Of Warcraft BookThe storyline is boring at some points because it is too predictable. The were no surprises and twists to keep the reader active in the story. The descriptions of Pandaria and the monks were fairly accurate and convincing, but again, boring. The interaction between the main characters could have been explored a bit more, especially between Vol'jin and the man. Stackpole leaves much out and depends on the readers knowledge of the game to fill in the blanks.Overall, I read it all the way through, but it was not as captivating as a Christie Golden or Richard Knaak book. I would recommend this book ONLY as a way to get background for the upcoming upgrades and storylines in the game. I hope that the Powers-That-Be do not ask him to write another WOW book... I may be tempted to NOT read it at all.

A good read--I actually started reading it second time because I liked it so much. Gives a lot of background on troll history, which is one of the few areas where there's not a lot of collected material on. It got a little corny between Chen and Yaliya, but it was cute and sorta normal for the high drama atmosphere that is Warcraft, so I just rolled with it. The book kinda left their future hanging though, which isn't so unusual for the Warcraft books because they're essentially a broken up series, but I found it a little disappointing all the same. I was really digging the relationship between Vol'jin and Chen--it was believable, and I LIKED it. They were comrades and they understood each other and it was great. The relationship between Vol'jin and Tyrathan, well, that was considerably less believable, but considering they were from opposite sides of the war, I understand that it's difficult to have two enemies just begin liking each other enough to fight a common enemy without killing each other in the process. It's hard to describe, but it almost felt like Tyrathan was supposed to be a stand in for a PC toon, even though nothing like what happened in the book happened in MoP. The fight scenes flow pretty well without a lot of gore and while I put that it had graphic violence, it really hovers more between "some violence" and "graphic violence"...I just put the latter because there was a LOT of fighting going on. I was suitably entertained and I'm glad I bought the book.

Pnadaria used to be controlled by the Mogu, giant magical beings that seems to live forever. They ha been buried a god long time an no want to rise with the help of the Zandalari, powerful troll nation. An armed conflict I raging between the human Alliance and the trollish Horde. The trolls, or at least many of them wish to revive the old troll empire an rule the world. The story line itself is rather simple, Chen a brewmaster is called to a river in order to rescue and heal a wounded troll. That troll is Vol’jin who was set up by his leader Garrosh. Being ambushed in a cave by Surok creatures and ogres, Vol’jin is thought to be dead. While healing at the monastery he befriends a human named Tarathan. Together they become friends and allies against a Zandalari /Mogu invasion.During the invasion they offer resistance, get captured and then set traps for the invaders. At the end is an intense conflict.The story line to this rather simple as you have just read above, there is a lot of going inside the characters head and dealing with l their thought. Some of them are rather extraneous and not important to the plot nor story line. The book was somewhat difficult at times to get into. But over ll an enjoyable read.

Out of all the Warcraft books that I have read, I will have to this is one of my favorites. When the Mists of Pandaria expansion came out, I thought it was a bit of joke. I found the Panderan race annoying and was never interested in even trying to play as one. However, reading this book came me a new perspective to these aspects of the game and encouraged me to perhaps give the Pandaren and their expansion a try.In previous books, Vol'jin has made appearances and played some minor parts in the events. However, not much was really known about it. This book brings not only him but also the Trolls as a race out a little more into the foreground. Up 'til now, the books have focused primarily on the Orcs, Trolls, and Dragons with the other races as mere support. The roles have reversed and I'm hoping to see a more a continuation in this pattern. Admittedly, this book story-line did not really have an impact in the Azeroth events as a whole. I have a feeling, though, that what transpired will be means of justifying future actions and events.I enjoyed the developing relationship between the two main characters despite the fact that their races are at war with each other.I am very glad that I read this book.

There are many things to like about this little book. The words and sentences are well organized into sensible and useful categories. Little bits of humor are sprinkled throughout, and that's amusing. However, there are many typos and others errors scattered throughout the book, and quite a few of the suggested pronunciations are just plain wrong.UPDATE: Returning to this book after a couple of Portuguese courses, I am stunned at the quantity of errors. Incorrect translations, incorrect spellings, incorrect accents, the list goes on. Downgrading it from three to two stars.

Just received this book after it was out of stock on Amazon for several weeks. Shows a January 2018 printing date. Nicely organized with chapters to address common tourist needs, including traveling, eating, sleeping, health, chatting -- and easy to find subsections within each chapter. The outer page edge has printed "tabs" that make it easy to find the sections. There's some basic info about pronounciation, and brief dictionaries -- English/Portuguese and Portuguese/English. This book should serve us well on an upcoming trip! We ordered this together with the Michelin 733 map of Portugal.

I am Portuguese and purchased this booklet,as a "jump start" reference for my daughters who don't speek the language, but want to go to go spend the summer in Portugal to learn it.The packaging is excelent. It fits perfectly in an average jacket pocket. I also believe that if you take a litle time to familiarize yourself with the layout of information you will find every phrase/word you will need. I just wish the author had used native Portuguese speekers to do the phonetic interpretation of the words for it is clear it was done as an English speeking person hears not a native Portuguese.If you are planing a tip to this country, this is a good resourse, but don't wory to much you will be fine; except for the older or or "non educated" population everyone speeks enouph English and will be eager to be of help. Have a fantastic time!

Great guide overall. There are some omissions, and I might disagree with some suggestions - like I think the itineraries are too rushed. If used with other research to plan your trip - its a great little book.

I got this book to offer to a non-portuguese speaking person, and I'm glad I took a look at it first. I don't know from where the translators are, but there are pretty serious errors in that book. For instance, belly button is umbigo and not tecla da barriga. Cookie is bolacha and not bolaicha. The verb to be, in portuguese, is ser and not sér, among others. One that I found is not even a word in portuguese! Something indispensable is imprescindível, no impresíndivel.The structure of the book is quite accessible, is the poor translation that ruins it. Maybe the editor should be more aware.

We are leaving soon and will use the book everywhere we go. While in Paris, if we consulted our guide book the locals knew we were serious about learning about their customs and culture.

I've never had a problem with any of Rick's guidebooks. Always take one on any European trip. Gives you exact details of how where and when.

I will use it when we go to Portugal, meanwhile I'm studying it now

I took several classes that were taught by the author (Dr Payne) while I was in ministerial school. He was a smart guy, so I had high hopes for this book.I was disappointed. Although he did indeed discuss a very large number of Bible prophecies, most of his explanations were the kind of popular tripe you would expect from a high school para-church group or tent evangelist. Very shallow. If this is the best that a serious Christian scholar like Dr Payne can come up with, maybe the skeptics are right.I'd have given it only one star except I liked Dr Payne.

I wish I had bought the hard cover book. There is sooo much useful information in this book that i will probably wear it out!

This book is a fantastic help for those studying bible prophecy. It helps take some of the guesswork out. I recomend this book to anyone who has a desire to study the bible indepth.

This is definitely a great study tool every have if you are a true Bible student. I have to say it is a little complex, so you need to devote sometime in studying it for yourself and proofing all things.

Our youngest son is a huge fan of Charlie Brown and Snoopy. We first ordered The Great Pumpkin near Halloween. The book is wonderful, true to the story you see on tv and beautifully illustrated. We then ordered the Thanksgiving book and Christmas. Our son was thrilled with these and they are one of his favorite things to read at bedtime.

Started introducing my kids to Peanuts last year as the holidays were coming up. The kids really took to the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving movie (moreso than Halloween, but also later enjoyed Christmas too).Purchased this book adaptation and quite happy with it. It's true to the movie, with the normal minimal trimmings which normally reduce the more outdated references. One really small regret are those outdated references because there are one or two that my kids love saying, even if no one talks like that anymore (eg. You're holding my hand Chuck, you sly dog).But overall a great adaptation and way to reinforce reading for kids that enjoy the Peanuts as much as we did as kids.

I was looking for books for each holiday and this was is a great one to have on the shelf.

With Charlie Brown and Dr. Seuss, you don't have to say much, most of you already know and it's all good.

The book looks great. Images from the TV show, with text for kids to read.

My grandsons love it ..

Standard Charlie Brown type of story. My daughter loves it because Snoopy and Woodstock “cook.”

Interesting story- the first two acts of adolecense and train hopping were intense and interesting.But God, once he arrives in America, everything goes downhill. Sonia Nazario is probably giving the actual description of what happened, and what reality is like, but it was a really slap-in-the-face third act.SPOILERS....Ok so once he gets to America, he picks up different blue collar jobs which is fine and all, but quickly becomes an alcoholic/druggie who is abusive and irrational. He becomes the exact stereotype of people who don't want illegal immigrants in the country, by freeloading off the welfare system essentially. I bought this book years ago so I can't remember exactly everything, but it still infuriates me that this was supposed to be a book that would let you see "the other side" of these issues. The first 2/3 of the book make you emphasize with the kid, but then throws it away and confirms the stereotype of the lazy/dangerous/freeloader immigrant that I don't even agree with.Do yourselves a favor; when he gets into America, put the book down, and walk away.

I learned so much from this book. I had a hard time reading it at first, but became very interested from the sociological viewpoint when the author explained how the children who had taken the train, and their mothers felt about each other after years of separation. I was also interested in the interviews at the end with Enrique, and with the author, Sonia Nazario. I got a mental picture of immigration in our country which is every bit as profound a migration as is happening in Europe with the war in Syria bringing more immigrants than they can handle. The immigration to our country is also similar in numbers seeking asylum. I hope that we can welcome our natural immigrants as people who will enrich our society, rather than hinder it. Californians have accepted and assimilated immigrants better and longer than many other states. It can be done.

I found "Enrique's Journey" to be one of those books that is hard to put down. It is very well written, comprehensive, and tells the story in such a way that the reader sees more than one person's perspective. For instance, when Lourdes initially explained her reasoning for leaving her children behind (extreme poverty etc), it made sense despite the fact that most mothers here could not imagine having to make such a choice. For young Enrique, however, all the poverty was difficult yes, but losing his mother during his childhood was a loss that he didn't see as "worth it" and it created emotional scars that are likely long lasting. I have never been one that was against immigrants--although I did feel that they should just go through the process legally! It is not that straightforward it turns out. The countries put many barriers in the way to achieving a legal and safe immigration process--some of those barriers for good reasons, and some only perpetuate the bias against those who may look, speak and act differently than we do here in the United States. Sonia Nazario is a great journalist and author in that she explains the challenges she had as well as any "shortcuts" she had to take to work around or through them. For instance, she did not take EVERY step of the perilous journey with Enrique, however she was able to work with him to recreate the trip in their conversation, through corroboration, etc. I never before knew just how perilous and at times deadly such a journey could be until reading this book!I highly recommend it!

This book is an excellent read about what Mexican, Central American, and South American immigrants to the United States go through: their living conditions in their own countries, the struggles and tragedies they endure to come to a better way of life, and the continuing struggles once they reach our country. It definitely made me more aware of the entire situation. I am passing it on to my daughter. She is contemplating using it for a book club read.

I cannot write enough good things about this book. This book is another example of my conviction that only seasoned journalists should be allowed to write and publish books. Like William Rempel's book At the Devil's Table, Sonia Nazario's fine book has pulled together a myriad of relevant details and important facts in order to deliver a flawless performance telling the story of not only Enrique but the thousands of other children who leave Central American countries every year embarking on the dangerous journey that takes them though Mexico searching for their parents who left to start a better life in the US. I am not a particularly fast reader, but the unfortunate problem with books like this is that they are so compelling, gripping, and well-written that you cannot put them down, blowing through the entire book until you no longer have a good book to read. The author covers the subject in depth and breadth and suggests some solutions, although I suspect these are intractable problems that will always be with us.

Excellent book about a 12 year old boy from Honduras who sets out on his own to find his mother in the U.S.It is a true story, written by a journalist, who interviewed him and visited all the places along the way. His plight in crossing Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico and all the suffering, hunger, beatings, assaults that he experienced along the way left me speechless and gave me a better understanding of what the immigrants trying to cross into the U.S. go through. Enrique never gives up in spite of being caught many times and being sent back to Honduras. He tries again and again because he misses his mother who left him and his sister with their grandmother when Enrique was 4 years old. She left seeking work as a domestic in the U.S. in order to be able to send money back home so that Enrique and her sister could buy shoes so they could walk several miles to school.
