About the Author
Anna Dewdney was a teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of reading aloud to children. She continually honed her skills as an artist and writer and published her first Llama Llama book in 2005. Her passion for creating extended to home and garden and she lovingly restored an 18th century farmhouse in southern Vermont. She wrote, painted, gardened, and lived there with her partner, Reed, her two daughters, two wirehaired pointing griffons, and one bulldog. Anna passed away in 2016, but her spirit will live on in her books.

Among the Llama Llama board books, this was far and away my son's favorite. He started showing an interest in particular books at around nine or ten months, and the physical actions described in this book made it very fun for us to read. The first page, for instance, is "hop". So I would "hop" my son on my lap, much to his squealing delight. Even before he was talking, he quickly learned to recognize the words and pictures of this book, and would clap when we turned to the "clap" page. He often wanted to read it several times in a row, and eventually we wore out our first copy and had to replace it. We wore out a board book. Really.As with the other Dewdney books, the rhymes are cute and catchy, making it easy to catch and keep your little one's attention. The simplicity of the words makes it a good choice for early readers, but if your tot is a bit advanced on the language front, consider one of the hardcover Llama Llama books (longer, more complex words).
We checked this out at the public library, and my 5 month old son went crazy for it! I knew I had to buy it. We read it two or three times a day, ending each time with a hug just like in the book. When he is old enough to make the "tap," "clap," etc. movements, I think he will really enjoy that. Sturdy product; great price; simple words; predictable rhyme; easy to handle size--all make this perfect for baby and toddler.
This is my kid's very. favorite. book. As soon as we finish, she claps and turns it back to the front page. If we say "all done!" she shoves it into our hands. If we hide it, she looks for it. If anyone says hop, she runs to grab this book.I will say, this isn't a typical story, so if you're looking for that, this isn't the book for you.
OUR BABY LOVES THIS BOOK! Every night we have a night-time routine. She gets her bath, we put her in her PJ's, we read a book, say our night-time prayers, and kiss her goodnight. This is one of her favorite books. We always let her choose which book she wants to read and this one is picked all the time!
If your child is already a fan of Red Pajama or the other Llama Llama storybooks, they are probably too old for this board book.Our 3 year old loves Llama Llama Books. She regularly chooses one of the story books for her bedtime story. We were already owners of the original books (Red Pajama, Misses Mama, Mad at Mama, etc.) at the time and we pre-ordered all four of the board books. Our daughter was 2 at the time and we jumped on any new Llama Llama books that came out. Unfortunately, these books were a completely different level than the originals and we didn't realize it at the time because the Amazon description didn't have any age level information in it. We were very disappointed and our daughter showed no interest in the board books after the initial read. They are pure board books with very simple writing. We're talking 4-6 words per page with very little story. They may be good for babies and very young toddlers, but I can't imagine they will keep a child's interest very long. There are much better board books out there.In conclusion, if your child is already a fan of the original Llama Llama story books like Red Pajama and Misses Mama, do not buy these books. They are not the same and are for a much younger audience. You will be disappointed.
Story is great, the condition of the book not so great, it arrived bent out of shape.
This (along with Llama Llama Zippity-Zoom) is the first book my 9 month old son seems to be really into. He'll grab the book and crawl into my lap so I'll read it to him... Over... And over... He doesn't do this with any of the other books I leave out for him, and believe me--I've tried to get him interested in others. I think it's the rhyming and the fact that it's really short. Perfect for babies!
My granddaughter LOVES this book. We do the actions together, my favorite is the big hug I get at the end when it says "big hug now"! She loves all the Llama Llama books (she is turning two years old) and I buy them for her when they become available. But this is probably her pick.Mine too, just for that hug.
