Review
ECPA bestseller“Danger, dark schemes, and political intrigue wrestle against truth, valor, and determined obedience to Yahweh in this compelling tale of Hezekiah—the boy who would be king—and a beautiful but broken orphan girl taken in by Isaiah, the Lord’s prophet. While alternately angered and devastated by the faithlessness of Yahweh’s people in one chapter, in the next I was revitalized and filled with hope in the unfolding prophecies and mercy of our Sovereign God. Andrews has woven a love story, a beautifully written novel to savor, and a reminder that despite our fallen humanity, God’s best is yet to come.” —Cathy Gohlke, Christy Award–winning author of Until We Find Home “Mesu Andrews brings the prophet Isaiah to life with her usual brilliance at weaving deep historical threads together with the story of a little-known woman of the Bible. Isaiah’s Daughter is an excellent reminder that the truth of God’s words will be proven, even when His people cannot see through the veil of suffering to the ultimate victory.” —Connilyn Cossette, CBA best-selling author of the Out from Egypt series “Epic drama, adventure, love, treachery—Isaiah’s Daughter is all of that and more in this latest stellar novel by Mesu Andrews. The author brings to life Judah’s queen, the lovely Hephzibah, infusing each page with heart-stopping emotion and a pure romantic love for her friend and king, Hezekiah, that touched my soul. When I finished reading, I could only marvel at the novel’s depth and breadth and how Andrews portrayed this daughter of a prophet rising to the greatness of God’s promise, resilient in a time of disobedience. Keeping faith with Yahweh amid war and death and pestilence might be the only means to survive. A thoroughly catch-your-breath kind of experience in an impressive body of work, Isaiah’s Daughter is a story fans of biblical fiction will love!” —Kate Breslin, award-winning author of For Such a Time

This was my first read from Mesu Andrews. I was hesitant to read this, although it was recommended by a friend. I was thinking that this was going to be a story slanted for a ladies Bible study. What I found was a personalization and expounding of those “begat†passages from the Old Testament. It brought the kingdom to life. You can tell Mesu knows her Bible, and you learn and internalize it in an entertaining way. It sheds new light on familiar stories, makes them readable, and helps you to understand the cultural aspects surrounding them.A totally entertaining read. And if you’re not careful, you may find yourself reinforcing your beliefs in how God moved in those times. It’s going to be hard not to associate this book whenever Isaiah is mentioned in church or study classes.
If you have been assaulted and not fully worked through that, this book might be very very difficult for you. Similarly, if you are someone who is very sensitive, you may want to pass. I ALMOST put this down, but trusted the many, many good reviews and stuck with it. I'm glad I did as it is a beautiful book, I really did like it a great deal, but the beginning was touch to take. I get that it is discussing what happens in war and what happened in history, but that doesn't mean I want to experience it by reading it.
I seldom give a book 5 stars, but "Isaiah's Daughter" by Mesu Andrews deserves every one. Thoroughly researched, skillfully plotted, and tenderly told, the lifelike characters become real people whose trials and triumphs made me both laugh and cry. One thread that shone like gold, was the faithfulness of God for his people and for the little orphan girl who became the "delight of the Lord". It made me long to draw closer to him so that I, too, can claim that title. Ms. Andrews writing never fails to entertain and inspire, and this book is her best one yet. If you haven't tried Biblical Fiction before, there is no better place to start. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
I loved seeing Isaiah as a person- as a husband, a father, as one who struggles to be obedient. I loved Ishma and Hephzibah. Sometimes God says no and sometimes He delays His answer but His ways are always the right way. Worth reading- kept my vision vertical.
I took my time and savored this beautiful bible-based epic story about Isaiah the prophet, his daughter and the God-fearing King Hezekiah who tried to wipe out the pagan worship condoned by his father, and bring back true worship to Yahweh. One of my favorite lines from the book "Yahweh, I will trust You when I have more questions than answers." If you like biblical novels, you will love this!
I have not read any books written by this author before but as the cliche goes - it will not be my last. I love the author’s theology when She was painting us a picture of Isaiah teaching / shaping all the young minds of Judea’s nobility. King Ahaz demoted Isaiah but God used it for his own perfect purpose. I loved how she used scripture as a synopsis at the beginning of each chapter. To me Isaiah the Prophet is one of the scariest people in the Bible but she humanized him & she was able to create a beautiful love story between 2 characters of the Bible that is Cinema worthy in Hollywood standards. Definitely 5 star worthy. I was on the edge of my seat wanting more wondering what was going to happen next even tho I knew the story.
Mesu Andrews follows the life of an orphaned girl, Ishma, who becomes the daughter of a prophet and wife of a king. It provides a "between the lines" view of the reign of Hezekiah. Hephzibah striggles with many issues that today's women face. Through it, she finds hope as she learns to lean in her faith and trust God. Very well written and a high reccomendation for anyone desiring to read between the lines of Scripture.
Mesu Andrews alway inspires me as I read and reread her books. Again she sent to to the scriptures as details in this Biblical historical novel began showing up. Thanks for another great read Mesu.
