I found this a very good book and found the reasons for the previous reviews very much off base.

Nice condition!

Well the book they sent me isn't as handsome as the one in the picture. The copy I got is also printed by the NRA which to me is a little suspect but so far it seems worth the 8 dollars. I'm sure I will be buying another copy on down the line not only to see if there are differences but because the man made leather is already taking a beating from being toted around on my daily excursions.

Don't pick up this book thinking that you will get a copy of the writings of Thomas Paine. This is a collection of the writings of Thomas Paine put together by a group of Communists that edit his writings in such a way as to further their ideology. I hadn't read Paine's writings for years, so I bought this wanting to once again read Paine's writings about the American ideal of individual determinism, liberty, and limited government, and I foolishly didn't look up the authors first, who happen to be typical Stalists academics. Why hard core leftists would read Paine is beyond me (although they like that he participated in the French Revolution, an act that Paine came later to greatly regret as it turned into indiscriminate and terrible bloodshed). The American Revolution wasn't really a revolution. It was more of a natural evolution that formed naturally from liberties that had been developing in England since the Magna Carta. Anyway, after reading the first couple of pages, I had to clean coffee out of the carpet where I spit it out shock. Now I must go take a shower and try to wash off all of the wrongness, just like that guy in the Crying Game.

Alice Medrich gives very good background information regarding chocolate and today's higher-fat chocolate, and regarding cooking with the various chocolates. She has some fascinating recipes. Eraser

Years 3 and 4 and the first half of 5 went totally off the rails (except for when the Greek Gods got involved - that was fun, but I've been a sucker for Greek Gods in comics for 30 years (Avengers in the late 80s, the recent Wonder Woman run)).10 hard-cover trades in, and this is where we are:1) Superman is the dominant force on Earth. He rules with an iron hand.2) Batman continues to oppose Superman. He is in hiding. He has a small group of supporters.3) Some of Superman's allies are questioning his sanity and methods (in this arc, it is the Flash...but others have questioned it before).4) Lex Luthor continues to work for both sides.5) Batman and his son continue to sit on opposite sides.6) The authors continue to tell the occasional nonsensical Harley Quinn tale (she is on the cover - this feels like a sales pitch).DC needs to end this series already. It has gone on 2 to 3 years too long. It keeps repeating itself like a TV show long past its expiration date. Like many others, I like seeing superhero conflicts (Squadron Supreme, Kingdom Come, Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, Civil War 1 all represent the apex of that genre). There have been some good moments here, but if I could do it over again, I would have read the first year and then bowed out. Or not have read anything at all.

The tremendous start to Injustice's final "year" continues to with the second volume that has multiple great character moments and one of the single most heart breaking moments of the entire dark comic's run. Harley Quinn remains Injustice's secret weapon as Buccellato, like Taylor before him, gets some great dramatic material out of the character as she contemplates her place in the Insurgency. Likewise a rift forms between Catwoman and Batman as she realizes she can no longer support his campaign against Superman when every single plan has failed and most of the Insurgents have died in the process. While the Insurgency teeters on the edge, Superman continues to consolidate his power while devolving further into outright madness. No longer killing in battle and merely trying to be a savior to human kind, the evil Superman has gone outright megalomaniac and is murdering those who dare to raise their voices in opposition to him while distancing himself from the rest of the Regime.This leads to the one major setback of this volume (a problem is majorly exacerbated in the final volume that just came out): the wishy-washy nature of characters like the Flash, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg in the face of Superman's blatant madness. Obviously the writers have been handicapped from the start as all of these characters are on the side of the Regime in the story of the game, but while most of them are rather nefarious and willing to play the part of the evil henchmen in the game, all four are vocally wondering whether Superman has gone too far in this volume. While the Flash does notably betray the Regime during the game's events, Wonder Woman and Cyborg are steadfast supporters of Clark's new world order, but Buccellato doesn't do enough to show how they make that final fall into pure "evil minion" territory. SPOILERS AHEAD.The two dramatic turns for this volume are Superman's massacre of a group of anti-Regime protesters and his decision to unleash Victor Zsasz on Alfred in the hopes that the killer would torture Batman's location out of the butler. These deaths on Superman's hands are enough to bring down the Regime according to Batman and all the aforementioned Regime members publicly question whether or not Superman is so far gone that he is capable of committing such acts. The Flash goes so far as to save Batman from Superman at one point even though Supes nearly snaps Barry's neck for the affront. I wish the writing team had spent a bit more time setting up these characters for their own dark falls instead of wasting time on threats like the Olympian Gods as now Buccellato has only a year to justify their actions in the game.

The final year of Injustice: Gods Among Us continues in the same high gear that the earlier volumes did, with an increasingly unstable Superman descending even further into paranoia and rage. The Superman/Batman conflict is now in its fifth year, and allies on both sides are getting tired and disillusioned with the whole thing. The storyline is still fresh and interesting, however, and with just two volumes left to go, all bets are off as to which of the capes is going to win. If you’ve followed the story this far, this is no time to quit.

I love this series. Injustice is the thought experiment we all needed. I can't wait to see what's next. It's so dark.

This series is amazing. The game was very fun and everything, but WOW; the comics are a treat. My problem with superhero comics is that it is literally an ongoing soap opera where people die, they come back, rinse and repeat. This series though, has deaths and other events that actually have some weight to them. Seriously, buy these trades while you can. You won't regret it.

I didn't even think to check this book against other stitch dictionaries before purchasing because I have no other dictionaries from this publisher. Turns out that this is a reprint of the new Harmony Guides from Interweave Press. I'm not sure what the story is here, or why St. Martin's (Pavilion) is publishing this one, but there it is. The pictures have been color corrected differently and it's in a different binding. Otherwise, it is the same. As one other reviewer noted, there are still no charts. Charts would have been a very helpful addition and one I gladly would have paid again to have, even though I already have the Harmony Guides. To be clear: I really have no problem at all with reprinting info in different formats. I just want to be told ahead of time that the content is a reprint so that I can make an informed decision about purchasing. This book was promoted as "The Ultimate," but in reality it is a reprint. That needs to be disclosed upfront.If you do not already have the new Harmony Guides, this is a great way to buy the collection at a discount. There are some great stitches in the book, and this is why I gave it 3 stars. But I must say: I am really extremely disappointed, as I love collecting stitch dictionaries. I pre-ordered and was waiting on this one with much anticipation.

If you do not already have the "new Harmony Guides" from Interweave Press (edited by Erika Knight) this book is for you: all volumes are republished here. If, however, you shelled out nearly a hundred bucks for all of the revised Harmony Guides, you will not be getting anything new here. A few stitches have been given new names for this book, but everything here is identical to the Harmony Guides, and not the old Guides! There still are NO charts, except for the cable stitches, same as the Interweave guides. Here was a second chance to add charts and make these guides actually useful, but..... Nope. This book is being returned. My shelf space is too limited to have multiple copies of all the same info. Had they added charts, I would keep it for sure. But there was no effort put forth here. Just a reprint designed solely for more sales. What a disappointment.

This is a very good book. Exhaustive, as you would expect from the title. It's big and heavy. Since I paid about $14 for the book, I think it's a great bargain.These are the categories of stitch patterns: Knit and purl stitches (52 pages; 200 stitch patterns), cable and Aran stitches (52 pages; 134 stitch patterns), lace and eyelet stitches (50 pages; 150 stitch patterns), colorwork stitches (52 pages; 146 stitch patterns), & edgings & trims (50 pages; 132 stitch patterns). (Please use my count of stitch patterns as a guideline; I had to go through and count them so I could easily be a couple off. In fact, it seems I *have* to have missed several, because I only get 730-something stitches when I add them up.)There are several motifs and panels in the various categories, and even a couple of appliques, but there are no individual squares as such. There also aren't any shaped stitch patterns outside of the edgings & trims section--no chevron/zigzag patterns, no feather-and-fan lace.There are anywhere from one to six stitch patterns on a page. There are far more of the latter than the former. The photos are correspondingly small. I'm sure this was done to keep the number of pages and the overall cost down, but it's still somewhat disappointing in a modern book. The good thing about the photos is that all the yarns show the stitches very well. There are no blurry pictures or fuzzy yarns here, and all the photos are in color.Niggling things that annoyed me:There are color-coded bits on the right-hand side to let you know which category you are looking at. However, they are quite small, the print is minute, and the colors are close enough together at a quick glance that it would be easy to lose your place if you cared about that. They are also ONLY on the right hand page, even if the new chapter actually starts on a left-hand page, and at a quick glance they all do.The colorwork chapter has only charts, not written directions. These are TINY charts. To give a notion of scale, there is a 27 stitch by 27 row square that measures 2 1/8" on a side. There is nothing to make you feel old quite like this chapter! If I use any of the stitch patterns here, I'll definitely be copying and enlarging the graphs so I can see what the heck I'm supposed to be doing.Speaking of charts, there are a fair number in the cables category, but comparatively few, and at a quick glance I can't see any rhyme or reason for the ones that are there. I'm not seeing any in the lace section, but there's every chance there are a few and I've merely overlooked them.The only index in the book is alphabetical, which is a bit of a disappointment when the last stitch dictionary I bought also had an index by stitch repeat. I realize this is still the norm by far, however.

I am an avid knitter and love to experiment with different types of stitches, yarns, and patterns. This book has the stitches so all you need are the patterns and the yarns.The stitches are divided up into knit and purl stitches, cable and aran stitches, lace and eyelet stitches, colorwork stitches, and edges and trims. There are some reviewers who state that this book is repetitive of books that have come out previously. I differ on that assessment. The color reproductions are clearer, the instructions are very complete, and the division of the stitches into their particular categories makes a lot of sense.I tries out several stitches in the various categories and had not problems with any of them. They came out just as they were supposed to. As someone who enjoys making shawls, shawlettes, scarves, and sweaters, I like to play with the patterns as well, switching stitches so as to get a better visuaL effect.This book contains everything I need for a book on knitting stitches and is well worth the money it costs. I highly recommend it for any serious knitter's library.

This book is divided into chapters (Knit and Purl, Cable and Aran, etc) but that's where the organization ends. Within a given chapter, the stitches are displayed in a seemingly random array. With the classic Barbara Walker treasury of stitch patterns, you find a logical progression from simple to complicated within each category. For example, her cable section begins with the most basic of cables and proceeds to cables requiring more and more rows and more and more complicated cabling to complete a design. I thought a book with this many stitches would be fantastic, but I am returning it because it's just not the easy-to-use reference that it should be.

Garbage. A rehash full of errors. Dates. Victims. misspellings. Dennis Crouch? It's Dennis Couch and I'm no Bundy author. DNA linked William Cosgrove to Kathy Devine's murder. Bundy was in Washington State the day Sandra Weaver disappeared and a day later when her body was found in Colorado. He never confessed to her murder. I could go on, but you get the idea.In short, I threw away $3.99 and 15 minutes of my life.One reviewer calls this the best book since Ann Rules Stranger Beside Me. Really? Shill city, here folks. If you want the real Bundy story read Michaud and Aynesworth's book, Keppel's, and Dick Larsen's Deliberate Stranger. All the others are rehashed or poorly crafted cobbled together trash penned by want-to-bees clinging for their place in Bundy lore.

I reviewed this book because it is a true crime and it intends to answer all questions related to a description of serial killer that answers all questions!!!!! I would recommend this book to anyone !!!!!!!!!

I read this book in one day because I just could not put it down. Bundy's story is genuinely interesting and this has only whetted my appetite. My only complaints are that it is rather short, and not much info at all on his early life. A few typos here and there but I don't mind that. Overall very interesting and worth your time.

Well written and included information I was not aware of...too short though...areas could have been expanded.

Was looking for a short book for an evening at home. Was not disappointed. Since this book, I've downloaded two more Robert Keller books.

A good fast paced read. Insights into a monster. If you like true crime books this is a recommended read.

Good overview of Ted Bundy but I prefer "The Stranger Beside Me" by Ann Rule.

This author was very informative on his information. I feel that he went to great measures to how a person can turn into a complete monster. I feel bad for all the victims family friends that this monster left behind in his rein of terror. The electric chair was much to good for him. But I guess he'll have to answer the our Lord and God almighty for what he had done.

It gives a detailed account of the changing social mores, political movements, rich vs. poor elements, race relations and everything that made the 1920's in America such a decade of upheaval.Allen, the author was a renowned writer for Harpers magazine the the Atlantic Monthly. His nearness to the decade that had just passed gave him incredible insight into the changing society.He provides plenty of details and background on social morality, the Teapot Dome scandal, labor unrest, Prohibition, high finance and all the popular plays, authors and the new "moving pictures".It is well written and he is known for "inventing" this style of historical nonfiction writing much as David McCoullough does today. Rather than a history book (as was the norm then), Allen weaves the events of the day into a story that shows cause and effect.He closes his book, predictably by the time of it publishing in 1930. He had NO IDEA , as he speculated into the future just how deep the Depression would go and the breadth of the apocalypse that would erupt in Europe 5 years later when Hitler took power. He did write a follow up book covering the 1930's.I highly recommend this book. I got it as a daily deal for $1.99.

If you realize that this book is not a formal history book with all the requisite research that is usually done for something like this, it is still a very enlivening and interesting history of the 1920's. My Dad was born in 1927, and I learned a lot from this book. I'd read books before on specific incidents such as the oncoming drought that the mid-West was starting to see, or the 1929 crash on Wall street but never a book which tied things together as neatly as this book. It was great to see how the 'War to end all wars' basically wore the American public out. I think what I consider horrifying is how many analogies there are between the 1920s and today are. I see a very corrupt President, with the wealthy trying to 'get theirs' at the expense of everyone else, and using the government as their own person piggy bank. I see the same problems with immigration, and the same prejudices occurring. I see women getting tired of being relegated to third class and becoming strong and working against injustices. I also see the speculation which is rampant now, and the very real possibility of another Great Depression hitting this country.This book should be required reading for anyone worried about the direction this country is going!

"Only Yesterday" has a feel of a modern day writer that climbed into a time machine, traveled back to 1919, lived 10 years in New York, then wrote this book while living in 1929. I expected to drudge through some outdated language, and have to look up items and names that were relevant at the time. What I got was an amazing glimpse into an era that I knew surprisingly little about.Frederick Lewis Allen had a tremendous knack for picking details that would be relevant almost 100 years later. From the price of basic staple, the the daily routine of the average couple, down to how they start their automobile. Mr. Allen then recaps the politics of the times, moral attitudes, prohibition, "Yes, We Have No Bananas", corruption, foreign affairs, radio, and culminating in a view of the stock market crash of 1929 that proved many of my pre-conceived notions incorrect.While there is a certain dryness in the early discussion of the politics of the time (no pun intended), everything else draws you in. This was a book that I found very difficult to put down, and intend to go back for another reading, while looking up some of the less familiar references as I go.The bottom line is that much of the story of the 1920s relates very closely to the events of today. Living wage, gender equality, moral attitudes, stock and real estate speculation are all discussed. And by merely changing a couple of dates and shifting a decimal place here or there, could Mr. Allen be discussing the modern world.I'm eager to begin Since Yesterday: The 1930s in America, September 3, 1929-September 3, 1939, which currently awaits me on my Kindle.
