There are a lot of code snippets that are worth saving.

This is a good, concise "quick start" guide for people new to Android development. It helps you get a good overview of the basic structure of an Android app and how they're put together. This book isn't really an introduction to programming (you'd have a hard time following it if you had no background at all), and it certainly isn't an "everything you ever wanted to know about Android" type book (think "high level overview and building blocks"), but it provides enough information to help you transition to developing on the platform more quickly.My only gripe about this book is the formatting on the Kindle edition. I'm not sure how I would've done it differently truthfully but the poor formatting sometimes made it difficult to follow the code samples.

I used to think it would take eternity to learn how to build an app, and most probably you have to be a professional programmer to pull this kind of thing off, but this book explains it all. It simplifies and demystifies it. So glad I found this book.

Another reviewer commented on the formatting of the Kindle edition. Trust me, the formatting on the paperback edition also sucks. I'm only on page 29 and the grammar Nazi in me is going crazy. Forget proofreading. The author (or editor) failed even to spell check this document. Folks, it's not that hard. The author provided what was to be a sample of code. Instead of properly formatted code each line is a bullet item. At the end of the sample we're left with a series of unmatched closing curly brackets. Compilers and interpreters are OCD. Most programmers are, too. The author obviously is not and this makes me question the value of the stuff that I don't know. If you're wrong about stuff that I do know I don't trust you with stuff that I don't know anything about. I rated it as three stars because most folks seem to think it's OK and I don't want to argue with them. I will say that I would not have purchased this had I been aware of the slovenly way it was thrown together.

The book does a poor job of explaining the process it's more of a glossary of terms than anything else. I wouldn't recommend this unless you already know how to program and need an index of terms.

This man is a genius! and I am so grateful i found this gem. I was suffering from severe anxiety and this book along with my own bravery and determination helped me put an end to the distorted reality I was living in. This isn't a overnight success book though it will work only if you put in the time and effort needed to achieve success. Good luck!

That book saved my life :) Just the first chapter helped me more than therapy sessions and pills ... If you have anxiety, panic attacks, depression, read that book !I would recommend too meditation, using the app headspace too !

Im only about 50 pages into the book but already I'm finding relief & self help tips. I would definitely reccomend this book to anyone struggling with intrusive thoughts.I had also purchased his other book "Feeling Good", i find this one more interesting and easier to follow than feeling good.I also love that he adds sections for you to work on to put it to action

The beginning of this book is about how it's worked for many people and why it'll work for you too. About 10% of this book is useful information. The other 90% are "success stories" that the author uses to solidify his methods. Most of them seem fabricated or drastically exaggerated. You'll start off a chapter with some information you can relate with. Then it dives into a story about how Burns met with a client, diagnosed them, used a therapeutic technique, and observed the miraculous reflection of instantaneous relief of anxiety in their face. The techniques may be good, but I just can't get by the other nonsense. This book was not for me but may work for others.

One of my patients actually bought this book before I did -- he was already reading it when he was referred to me to assist him with panic disorder. Panic Disorder is one of the more easily resolved mental health problems a person can have. Usually, once they understand that panic arises from one of the bodies most useful processes -- the fight, flight, or freeze reflex needed to save our lives when we are in a dangerous situation -- they are already halfway to a cure. This reflex becomes a disorder when one misinterprets something in the environment, or a bodily sensation, as being dangerous or potentially deadly. That "thing" could be a little flip-flop of the heart, or low blood sugar.The misinterpretation of the event causes the body to go into action sending more blood to major muscle groups so one can either run away really fast from the danger, provide the strength needed to fight the threat, or the ability to freeze so maybe you won't be noticed. However, when there is really no threat, what goes on in the body to prepare one to run fast, punch harder, etc., -- increased heart rate, faster breathing, etc. -- can be misinterpreted as "I'm dying" or "I'm going to pass out". If one is in a public space, the thought of passing out in front of strangers just increases the panic.As the fear of panic attacks in public spaces grows, the person may become more avoidant until, one day, s/he decides it's better to just stay home. Now, it's diagnosable as a Panic Disorder. Eventually, s/he avoids going out at all.So, the disorder is based on a phantom -- fear. Dr. Burns' book explains all this and more... and provides useful exercises for curing the disorder. Bonus? The cost of this book is probably less than one copay to see a qualified psychotherapist!

Lots of great advice for managing anxiety. Almost a little overwhelming with the number of approaches, but the appendix give advice on how to choose options that may be the most helpful. It is geared towards the general public reader - you don't need a background in counseling or psychology to understand it.

I fully endorse this book. I had flipped through a few pages of the feeling good handbook at a library and for some reason remembered the author's name. I found a bunch of books by Dr. Burns on Amazon but this one stuck out to me because I suffer from panic attacks. I've yet to use these techniques to guide me through a full blown panic attack but it has helped me through my day-to-day anxieties. This book is all about learning how to love and take care of yourself. It's been just as helpful as seeing an actual psychiatrist. His tone is very fun and his writing kept me engaged. I would buy another book by Dr. Burns. I'm definitely going to reread some chapters so I can really get a grasp of his techniques. He has over 40 different cognitive techniques for overcoming anxiety and they just make sense. One of my favorite things I learned is how anxiety at the end of the day has to burn out. Even when we're fully flooded with our worst fears...we adapt and the anxiety disappears.

Horrible recipes and missing or ingredients not completely listed. I grew up on 2nd Ave Delis chopped liver and wanted the recipe which is why I bought this book and the recipe is not only different from their original recipe but much different than the ingredients the owners wife used on our local TV station in NYC years ago.

Condolences to the family. The man who founded and ran the deli for years was murdered, never solved. The recipes look interesting and the ingredients don't have to be special ordered. A good cookbook. I am happy with the service and will order from these people again.

I never went to the Second Avenue Deli (being from Chicago originally) but many of my friends here in Florida grew up around it. They are thrilled that I will be recreating some of their favorite dishes from the book. I especially liked all the anecdotes from celebrities who also gave their family recipes. It's a book you just can't put down until the last page is read and then you run out for ingredients and start to cook. Loved it from cover to cover; from dish to dish. Thank you for the insight into an amazing man no one could forget.

As soon as I got the cookbook, " 2nd Ave Deli," I started to read it. Finished it the next day. What a history! Oy! It made me wish that I would have met Abe Lebewohl, such a fine example of an extraordinary person. His life touched so many people....As in many Jewish cookbooks, I love the story behind the recipe. This has that and more! With each recipe, the tradition continues.Each passed down from one person/generation to another. I hope to make them, "family recipes," in my home as well.Mazel tov for putting such an excellent cookbook together.

This book contains amazing, old school jewish recipes and stories from 2nd avenue deli, including the best recipe for chicken soup. I only wish they had included the recipes for challah and their tuna salad.

I miss the 2nd Ave Deli so much. So glad to know there is this book to keep the memory alive!

Beautiful Katherine Kelly was born in 1960 and was brought up in the church where foundations are built towards accruing and securing family life. Daniel, Keyonna, Elijah, Raeannah, Stanford, Dee and Sequoya were all victims of their mother's unending addiction and their father's addiction and imprisonment. By the time of age 29 Sequoya's mother was fully addicted to drugs. Sadly, one of the most heartbreaking stories in the book happened on Sequoya's 10th birthday when foster mother Benita arranges for these abused children to secretly see their mother for the last time.When Raeannah has an asthma attack; and the forbidden mother Karen takes her child to the hospital, foster mother Benita is unglued. Tearing up those children's pictures from that event was one of the cruelest things Benita could have done to a child. The road ahead for Sequoya and her siblings was gruesome. It entailed lies, beatings, punishments by adults in the foster system that was a crime. When Twanda punished the kids against the wall and punched and abused the children, regularly, you cry. For what they did to Sequoya and her siblings: Benita, Karen, Twanda, and others, they need to be ripped out of the foster system and should be jailed. Kim, the caseworker carted the child in and out of the system, seemingly not caring about the emotional toll it was having on these children and, the physical damages Sequoya and her siblings suffered. By the time the kids acquire permanency with the white mother, the emotional and physical damages are done. No help is proffered. And, then the ultimate abuse of adoption incurs when Abram, Sequoya's new brother punches her in the face with no consequences upon meeting his new sister, Sequoya. The white family of Karen and Neal and Abram is a long nightmare for Sequoya, who is constantly challenged by Karen. The love for her mother Katherine, was the only thing that kept Sequoya alive. Perhaps if Katherine's mother had not passed away when Sequoya was 3, she could have helped or; perhaps Katherine's mother could have taken Katherine's children in. The torture of being stripped from one lying, abusive family to another is unfathomable. Being stripped of the name your mother gave you, is the ultimate crime to a child. Sequoya says it best in the book: "Karen had slowly snatched my identity away from me." It brings you to tears. Lack of love, continual abuse, unfounded accusations, what Sequoya suffered in this book is reprehensible. Her letters to her mother revive you. I am so proud of Sequoya for fighting throughout this book to preserve her mother's love. I am proud of her for standing up for justice and recognizing the little things from all of her abusers. From Benita's lies and anxiousness to get to the airport, to Twanda's sick physical abuse to Karen's many emotional and physical violations, Sequoya survives. One of the best books I have ever read. This book is a window into all that's wrong with the government foster and adoption systems and the nation's failure to conquer drug addiction. No child should have suffered what these children suffered in this book. Sequoya compensates nicely for her mother's absence, because truly, Katherine with all of her problems with drugs and abandonment of her children, chose to remind her daughter always of the hair growing down the side of her face nicely. Thank God for the simple affirmations in life, that have the power to keep us alive. I commend this book to all. This is an excellent read. It should be required reading for all adoption and government agencies of the same kind.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that has struggled in they life. It’s truly amazing how Sequoya has eloquently verbalized her struggles in a way that will leave you with a sense that anyone can get through what they are going through. It’s difficult but you can definitely do it. I was truly inspired. Highly recommended.

I found this book through a foster child Facebook page. While I have not hosted foster children or been one myself I was instantly taken by Sequoya's story. I believe her message is for all of us. The writing itself was fantastic. She brings you right into her life with her thoughts and descriptions of people and places. She describes the highs and lows of her young life. Some horrible things that happened are both shocking and infuriating. You're thrilled for the small victories along the way and how clearly she seems to see through the insanity the best she can, even as a young innocent child. Through it all she clings to the hope and belief that her God and her biological family have not forgotten her. The story of her and her siblings in foster care is fascinating and inspiring. LOVED this book,

It was a real privilege to hear Sequoya's heart wrenching story. Words are inadequate. God works in mysterious ways and somehow a child who's gone through things almost unimaginable grows up to be someone phenomenal. Thank you for helping us see what the world looks like from a vulnerable child's perspective (from a foster parent).

Wow. My mind.is.blown. This is a true story of a sibling group of four and their resilience in the face of trauma, abuse, loss, injustice, and so many terrible life circumstances. It illustrates the impact adult choices and systematic indifference can have on children. Sequoya has an amazing ability to describe situations, her frame of mind as they occurred and to find the silver lining in some of the worst possible circumstances (without sounding cliche). As a transracial adoptive parent, the strength and importance of maintaining a connection to biological family was really evident as I read the book.

This memior was gripping and honest, a book I was unable to put down....I haven't been able to say that about a book in many years! Sequoia's portrayal of her life story was raw and honest, and amazing! As a foster care case worker this book has reminded me of why I do the job I do; to keep kids safe! Sequoia's story has made me want to be more aware of what is going on with my kiddos and to be the voice that fights for those who feel they have none.

Goodbye Sarajane. This book was hard getting through. Only because I have suffered through alot of the things that happened to Ms. Sequoya and her family. With the turn of each page, emotions gripped at my heart. Alot of foster children unfortunately only are names in a file, thrown on a desk. Nobody truly knows what is best for that child. This book in the perspective from a child gives the reader a deeper look into how life is for most children growing up in the system. It raw, its real, its deep. I was blown away at the resilient Sequoya and her siblings showed. Having to be so brave at such an innocent age. When all a child should be busy with just being a happy kid. Turning the pages of this book, I found myself crying, angry,but amazement also. The bond of this family through everything was beautiful. Even in the lonely of times,they would find comfort from eachother no matter what. I loved Sequoya's sassy ,defifiant, protective attitude. I found it quite charming and found myself laughing at times. This book was beautifully written and is a MUST READ

I absolutely love this book! I was lucky enough to putchase it when it was $13.00. It has all the colors and numbers you need to keep track of your inventory. What would make this look better is if you want to double the price, put more charts in it! There are only two charts in this book. For $13 that is a great price. For $26, it is totally not fair and unacceptable! If you want to raise the price to $26 put in four or six charts to make it worthwhile. I am very disappointed with this company for raising the price and I have told my friends not to buy it until the price goes down.

This book is overly expensive. $29 for 29 pages and about half of the pages are duplicate so you can cut them out for easier use. Like the color cards and the feature of a second set. But the price does justify this.

It has all the colors for DMC, there is a column to glue on the drills/diamonds to the matching colors. It has two pages of each so if you choose to you can cut out a set of pages if you prefer to and keep a set still in tact in the book.

I was so excited to receive this book to finally organize my drills by number instead of by shade like in the DMC thread for card. I started matching numbers to colors and not 2 colors in I found a huge discrepancy in the colors. As you see in the picture, these are not the same color. The one with the drill glued onto the color is from the original DMC color card. Even by lowering their price for a few days does not make this book worth having miscolored DMC numbers

Pretty disappointed. It was very expensive and I thought it would be a better buy than it was.

I was really looking forward to using this book as a definitive description of DCM colors, but it’s not what I expected. I disagree with quite a few of the editor’s color descriptions, and find them very confusing. Are there really 10 variations of baby blue? Number 505, Grass Green, shows a color swatch that is a very pale beigy green. Certainly not the rich medium green found in other art products, like oil paints. Number 718, “Plum,” has a fuschia colored swatch next to it. I think the editor should have completely left out the color descriptions, and just stuck to the number and color swatch. Also, when I compared the color chart with packaged drills I bought from suppliers, some were so different that I feel that there is no way I can trust this book to use it as a definitive chart for DMCs.

Great chart. Instead of including two charts that are exactly the same, maybe one of those could be sorted by number and the other sorted by color like the DMV charts. Just a thought.

I speak with 4th graders about what happened to the Titanic. Their teachers tell me the kids love this book. It gives a great overview without going into too much detail for kids their age. Strongly recommend for the young to read!

I purchased this book for my son for his 7th birthday. We have both found it very informative. It has lots pf Information about Titanic yet is written in away that He can read and understand it on his own. I also found it very interesting.

i got this for my son (7 yrs age) and it was MISS LEADING this one that is 11 dollars is not a pop up it is a regular book still great pictures and all but not the pop up book it needs to state that and not have the picture from pop up book . thank you
