I thought I was getting an anthology of Weil's essays that were chosen for their connection to her concept of the void and loving through that void and the affliction it entails. However, I was sorely disappointed to find that the essays had been edited in ways that eliminated the parts that didn't fit the apparent religious message meant to be conveyed. Any parts of her essays that may have contradicted traditionally held Christian beliefs were eliminated. This kind of behavior in academia would never be tolerated. This book disgraces Weil's work and what she stood for.
If you haven't yet read Simone Weil, this short book makes for a good introduction. It can be read, and savored, in one or two sittings. If you find she speaks to you, you will then want to explore her major writings afterward.

To find it included here enriches the volume as a whole. But every reader will find much here.
